I've had some time with the EA Access trial and I have to say it's a solid game and the story is much more developed than the first one. However I do have some complaints about the controls, who the fuck thought that LB was a good place for the jump, I've eaten shit so many times because I keep hitting A to jump. Solid game though.

I played the beta.

It's good. I liked what I saw.

I still think it lives on the flawed side of gem town. The enemy AI is extremely basic and the world feels a bit deserted and dead.

But the aesthetic is lovely, the combat has been improved and the movement is fun.

Mostly I'm just overjoyed that we actually got another Mirror's Edge game.

If it wasn't origin exclusive I'd probably pick it up. :s I really liked the first game.
EA's ego is so big that they cant release any of thier game on steam. instead they will only use Origin which is bad service. and thus their games are so overprice with microtransactions.

I am still playing the original for the first time after getting it a few months ago really cheap and its amazing and terrible at the same time. There are just so many highs and lows but I do think its focus is a strength.

I was sort of interested in the new one but I see they have made it open worldy which I think may suit the parkour aspects but I also feel it weakens the focus of the game and although all my experiences are second hand atm and thus not reliable I have not liked what I have seen. I dont know what the mission structure will be like but I would not be surprised if its packed mostly with ordinary unimaginative time trials and collection point quests.

I will be giving it a miss on release until I can get much more data but odds are I will pick it up in 5 years or so for next to nothing like I did it predecessor if I decide to get it at all.

Still I would love it if it completely subverted my extremely low expectations and was something I could enjoy.

Jump was mapped to LB in the first game as well. It was made that way so you could jump but keep your right thumb on the stick and still be able to look around.

I haven't played it yet but the response seems to be pretty positive. An improved version of the first game that still has a few flaws. I can live with that.

I'm very much looking forward to Catalyst. I loved Mirror's Edge and IMO has the best level design of any 3D platformer from last-gen.

Game reviews are complete garbage. Uncharted 4 is at a 93 and it's excruciatingly average (probably a bit below even) in the gameplay department.

I will let you know.
It hasn't released where I am, the GameStop nearest me does late-night launches all the time though so I'll hopefully get it tonight.

The first one was so bad I returned it for being shit. That was the actual reason I gave the cashier. I can't imagine this one being any better. First person parkour with orange lines to tell you where to go? Load of shit.

Played it for maybe 3 hours (EA Access) and the reviews right now feels well quite justified, it would probably probably get 6/10 from me. The combat is actually pretty fun and smooth in Catalyst. The open world can cause some confusion though because sometimes the game fails to give you directions where to go.

But overall the game feels pretty meh, not that I liked the first one that much either.

So far it's got a higher rating than Shadow Warrior at least.

Red, and you can turn it off.

I'd be interested but for the fact that parkour (and melee combat) in first person feels utterly terrible (ymmv). If it was a third person game, I'd probably give it a shot.. Mind you, the reviews have been pretty middling, so I might not be missing all tha much.

Well I enjoyed the beta, so I'm looking forward to the full game when it unlocks on the 9th.

Metacritic user reviews seem to be hitting it hard though. Currently sat there at a 1.5 rating. 100+ negative reviews, but yet I can only read 3 of them.

I'm hoping to pick it up in a few weeks. I would get it immediately, but it's my birthday then, so I've been advised to wait. Very much enjoyed my time with the beta though, so I'm cautiously optimistic for the full game.

Oh, I can explain that one.

Thanks to a blog post [https://www.destructoid.com/blogs/Dwavenhobble/the-sarkeesian-the-dice-and-the-mirror--235992.phtml] on Destructoid with no sources in it whatsoever, people somehow believe that everyone's favourite, Anita Sarkeesian, is/was working on the game. It's a load of bollocks, naturally, but that's never stopped the idiots of the internet before.

It is quite funny how even the hint of Sarkeesian makes them mad.

I'm a bit disappointed it takes place largely on rooftops and vague interior locations.

When I was saying the game should be open world, I was hoping for a little bit more vertical gameplay. Like, sometimes you can start at street level and work your way up to the tops of buildings. The first game had that a couple times, even if you did start in alley ways.

I don't know, they keep saying that the game is this oppressed world, over run by some authority, but you hardly see it. There's zero world building.

It looks like it might be worth $10 somewhere down the line when there aren't any other $10 games that I'd rather play. It's an EA game after all. And I've been spoiled by real games that are worth $40/$50/$60. Like The Witcher 3 and GTA V.

Yeah, the games industry ran with that one: http://n4g.com/news/1640735/ea-replied-to-a-fan-petition-to-remove-anita-sarkeesian-from-mirrors-edge-2-game-development

It is quite funny how even the hint of Sarkeesian makes them mad.
Considering her volatile relationship with the average gamer (that even knows about her), I'd understand people being concerned with her having any kind of significant role in designing a game actually intended for the average gamer. It's bad enough to have politics of any kind crammed in games without ones that are currently so controversial in the industry being slapped in everyone's faces.

As for me, I guess it'd depend on what she actually brought to the table if it had happened (which it didn't). Would it be a fresh take on a heroine or some sort of insight? I doubt it but if so then hell yeah! More likely it'd be more in the vein of how there's "no such thing as sexism against men", we're all latent rapists, and violence against men is fine but not against women. Typical sexist Sarkeesian rhetoric. Shame because she does bring up some very valid points regarding society's sexism in general too.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst is going to kill me.

Not hyperbole, when they find me dead, avenge me by burning down EA. You see. I fucking loved Mirror's Edge. LOVED. Like, in the ways only a man can love a disc with a hole in it. Anyhoo, years ago EA pissed me off so much I became one of those "Boycott EA!!!" types. You know the ones.

And I've stuck to it. And its pretty damn hard, EA puts out a ton of shit.

Still sticking to it...

...gonna have a fucking embolism over this game and drop dead.

If people said "its more of the same with prettier graphics," my response would be "GOOD!". Glad some of you bastards are enjoying it.
