It does depend a great deal on the depth of the universe in question, but that's only the starting point. Star Trek is deep and expansive to the point of being downright unwieldy, and Halo's big at least, but I didn't think the book adaptation for either was well done.captainfluoxetine said:I think it depends a great deal on the richness of the universe the game is set in.aashell13 said:I don't know. I've read some videogame-to-book ports before, the one for ST:O, I forget the title, and a bunch of the Halo books, and they all came off as really average.
I guess I'm more interested in the reverse, taking an interesting book and making a game out of it. Sure, it'd be linear as all get out, no other way to do it, but that might not be such a bad thing.
I personally loved the warcraft books which ive read because they really seemed to add depth to the game rather than being a cheap cash in.
We'll see how it turns out. I like a good book, particularly since the paperback versions are usually cheaper than a trip to the movies where I live. Somebody brought up the Mass Effect universe on another thread, there's a book adaptation I'd be curious to see.
