Personally I think it's better to revive an old thread rather then start a new one about the same thing. The one exception (for me at least) is if the opening is really bad. For example if the topic is about whether not you prefer shorts or pants and the thread opening is along the lines of "OMG PaNts be Th3 GreAT3st!!!" with no poll, I would be really tempted to start my own thread about it. The thread would have to be rather unpopular and at least 16 pages back before I would though.

While I still stand by that comment, I would like to add one caveat. If you are adding something to an old thread, make sure it's something worth reading. People who post 'lol' on six month old youtube link threads do not end up in my good books.
For that matter, if you're adding something to a NEW thread, make sure it's something worth reading as well...

I believe here at the escapist, they would yell at u for not using the search button because they would encourage bringing back an old thread on the same topic.

This whole thing, like many other things on the internet is really getting out of hand. Internet etiquette is becoming more of a burden than it should, giving birth to all sorts of unwanted people. Like proper spelling gave birth to fanatical grammar Nazis. People really need to cool off. Use common sense, and most importantly cool off. It's just the internet for crying out loud. If you already read a thread with the same title, just don't read it and don't post in it saying to use the search button.

Meh. I don't like multiple-page threads - I don't have the attention span and I feel like nobody will read what I write if it's on page 13 of a 16-page topic - so I prefer fresh starts. You'll always have different people giving different opinions, if only slightly, and if you're really uninterested you can not reply and the topic will sink back into obscurity.

You should always search. Then if you find a thread that is about what you'd like to discuss, see if it covers what you're meaning to talk about. If it does then necro it. If it doesn't then start afresh. If you get deja nazi'd then politely point out that you want a different perspective on the topic.

The deja nazis descend on me every time I start a thread, even though nothing comes up when I search for the topic, and they all sound relatively similar. "Use the search button you retard." You catch less shit if you necro a thread.

I've never understood the obsession with searching old posts on this site, another site I go on is equally anal about it but that site has a lot of technical information on which is actually of use.

On here the discussion isn't important, it's just passing the time talking about games, so really who cares if there's 2 posts on a particular topic within a week, just walk on by.

Use the search feature.

There's no point starting yet another thread going on about the same shit. Keep the site tidy and contribute to a conversation already started.

Unless you're trying to get a badge by duplicating the 'success' of the other thread(s).

But then you suck :p

This should, in fact, be a poll.

I vote Necro, that way it keeps everyone's opinions in one place and keeps from people having to post their opinions twice. Much like I'm doing right now.

I have yet to experience either situation. I have necro'd many times, but have never been yelled at. So I'd say Necromancy is the way to go. Especially since it involves controlling the undead.
And you get those awesome robes.
really the benefits are endless, except for the fact that if you walk outside in those robes with a channel changer you'll proly be sent to Guantanamo Bay :p
