Thread Necromancy?

I was wondering, is there a rule for Thread Necromancy? Most forums I go to have this rule, and I was wondering if The Escapist did. Also, if so, how long 'till the threads "untouchable"?

thread necromancy is sort of frowned apon, but its not a set rule (as far as i can tell). it's often caused by people who are berated for repeat topics. the rule of thumb i use is normally about a month. if it hasn't been touched by then its normally safe to open a new topic

Well, yeah, that's the rule I follow aswell, but I've known someplaces to allow longer then that. Thank for you answering my question, this has been bugging me for a while.

If there's no rule that I know of, I just look through the first three or four pages of threads, and if I don't see one on the topic I make a new one.

I liked to think we should revisit threads not copy but when it gets to the point where its 36 pages with EPIC FAIL pictures and ducks maybe its time to make a new one.

I can see this thread being used as a way to berate new people for not searching first, their resulting thread becoming six pages of : "http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.71863 we'd prefer you search first"

That rule on other forums pisses me off. I see a person getting yelled at for starting topics that have been done before, but when he opts to not make a new thread, but post his idea in one of the topics that were done before, he also gets yelled at. Such hypocrisy causes me NERDRAGE.

And I dont see how reviving old topics is bad in the first place.

I've had a problem with this for a while now, and even posted something to the same effect. We should all agree whether necroposting OR xeroxthreading is alright and then we'd be fair to frown upon the other.

I don't intend for it to be, I even used the search button to make sure no such topic has been made before.

Thread necromancy is okay. But we sure as hell despise thread re-makers.

Necromancy is encouraged, provided you actually add something meaningful to the thread. Bringing a thread back from the depths of the abyss only to post "lol yeah" is tempting fate.
Duplicate threads usually get locked.

On this forum it's rather popular, so we don't get repeats. I don't think I've done it, although I am tempted to sometimes.

Nothing wrong with Necromancy unless it brings to surface a thread that is horribly out of date or is very out of context. An example is a Halloween costume thread brought to surface in July.

And yes, that did happen.

Arr...it do be dependin' on how useful th' info ye've ta add to th' thread'll be, but then again, some mods of sites don't take any form of the black arts in good humor.
