Necro-posting on the Escapist follows pretty much the same guidelines as everything else, use common sense.

If you have a valid point to make on an old topic, then by all means, go ahead. If you don't have anything meaningful to say, don't go grave digging.

Well, I don't usually. Actually, I don't think I've ever pulled a thread up past page 3.

With that said, I like people Necro-ing rather than remaking that same topic.

In the debate between necromancy and cloning, we lean towards necromancy. Still, use your judgement. If the thread is so old that the information and/or opinions in there are no longer relevant, a fresh one may be better. On the other hand it's nice to have a good look at how things have changed (or not), and digging up the old thread prevents the duplication of effort that cloning a new one would entail.

I lean towards cloning. I mean - if I want to debate topic X, I don't want to read the 6++ pages from two months ago before I do so. And neither does any of the other participants I' wager. And I don't think a topic should be avoided for all eternity just because it was discussed some time last year.

But of course, I don't possess any banhammer so my opinion hardly counts for anything...

The problem with this concept is that if your thread is good enough to garner 6+ pages of replies, nobody is going to read the first few pages either, and a single thread will turn into a cycle of rehashing the same thing over and over again. We'd like to encourage people to take the time to read the opinions of others, and then also take time to form replies that add to the discussion, not generate an endless cycle of repetition because the same concept was posted X pages ago and 'nobody reads that far back'.

I liked to think we should revisit threads not copy but when it gets to the point where its 36 pages with EPIC FAIL pictures and ducks maybe its time to make a new one.
don't go to the duck side man, just don't go there.

and I am a thread-necro, but I at least add something or wait until it's been forgotten, but reagaurdless I'm still hunted down by decoy and people of similar actions(but in his defense decoy does it in a humorous manner).

And really who wants to go though several pages of babble no matter how funny it could get.

Come to the Dark side. Everything's bad-ass over here.

Thread necromancy is sort of frowned upon,[sic]
Since when?
Since I love breaking paradigms, I'm going to Necro right now! And there's nothing you can do about it!

I love the ducks and the epic fails. It adds that wonderful unintelligeble numbing feeling to my brain that helps me get through the day.

I usually use the search button, if I find an old thread, I make a post to contribuate to it. I also leave a Note* specifying that it was an old thread.

actually, this forum supports thread necromancy

they'd MUCH rather you raise a 2 year old thread then make a new thread for a subject that's been done a million times.

I know- DejaNazis seem to be a dime a dozen here..... The big problem with all that is that the forum search stops registering that a thread even exists if it's past a certain age, leading to confused TCs and overzealous DejablahNazi people.

Aahhh! There's one- honestly, why point out that a thread's been done before if the poster couldn't find any record of said thread before posting his own?

Sometimes (if the thread had a name that didn't really hint towards the title) then I can see why they may have created a new one and not seen the old one, but if they do search and see some, or simply refuse to search; well, it gets annoying.
