Three Hitman Games Getting HD Makeovers

Square Enix has announced that the Hitman HD: Trilogy is coming early next year.

If the recent release of Hitman: Absolution has made you nostalgic for the earlier games in the series, Square Enix is there for you. The publisher has announced that Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, Hitman Contracts, and Hitman Blood Money are being compiled into a single collection coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 early next year. Appropriately called Hitman HD: Trilogy in Square Enix's press release, it will be available on January 29, 2013 in North America, with PAL territories getting it on February 1.

Hitman 2: Silent Assassin and Hitman Contracts, released in 2002 and 2004, respectively, appeared on last-gen systems, while the 2006 release Hitman Blood Money was one of those on-the-cusp games that came out for last-gen and current-gen consoles, as well as the PC. All three games focus on series protagonist and prolific assassin Agent 47. Hitman HD: Trilogy will allow players to "experience more than 40 intense missions across three classic Hitman games, all presented in glorious HD."

Hitman HD: Trilogy will be $39.99 when it launches early next year.

Saw this yesterday on X360A and all I can say is...

YES! Can't wait for this now! Although no PC release seems odd. But in all honesty, I don't care.

So basically...

And other gifs of the YES! nature.

I want a PC release, I would likely pick this up because I have been meaning to try a hitman game at some point.

Why isn't Hitman 1 in this? Wouldn't it make more sense to release 1-3 (1 could really use a HD-ing) rather than 2-4? Still would like to play 2 and 3 again, it has been a while.

Contracts is basically a remake of Codename 47.

True enough I suppose. I could never finish 1 though, trying to play it on PC after the others on console was just unbearable. I really just want to play that last mission which Contracts follows on from.

The originals are some of the most aesthetically pleasing games ever. In my opinion, these games don't really need an HD update. Check out HD videos of them. You don't even need a powerful PC to run any of them.

I guess that it's good for console players who missed those games. These games don't get the appreciation they deserve.

It seems like IOI wants everyone to forget Codename: 47. They excluded it when they released the games in a single bundle (Hitman Trilogy), and now they won't make an HD remake of it. This is the only Hitman game that actually needs an overhaul, due to its bad controls and the way it works with modern CPUs.

I enjoyed the original three Hitman games very much when I bought the collection depicted above but they couldn't of HDified them then? Square Enix, why you trying to make me mad?

I really hope the HDifying doesn't clash with the dark art style of Hitman: Contracts, it was easily one of the best things going for the game and really made you feel a little uncomfortable while playing it.

If they gave the old games Absolution's mechanics (i.e.: the much improved combat, distractions, movement etc) I will be a very happy man!

You can get all of them on PC already and they can already be run in HD resolutions. They're all cheap, too. Probably cheaper than this collection.

Five points to you, Hazzard. I was considering posting this very same information but you've only gone and beat me to it. Indeed, they're all already on PC and you can run them in whatever resolution you so desire.

C47 has been the red-headed stepchild of the franchise for years. While Contracts does remake several of the former's levels, it doesn't have the storyline of the original. I'd kill for an HD re-release of the original.

That said, the best time to buy the games (re-release or not) was a month ago on Steam. Anyone could buy practically the whole franchise (barring C47) with Absolution's Professional Edition for $60.

Ok, I hate to be a killjoy, but unless they're doing more to these games than sharpening up the picture then I fail to see what all the excitement's about. And that's putting aside the fact that I've never been into the Hitman series anyway.

I don't really know what to think about this. I got Blood Money about 4 months ago for $2.50 on Steam. Plus, HD isn't really something I care about. So, it's good they are doing it (So more people will be inclined to play this series).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the original release of Blood Money on the 360, and therefore in HD from the start? I'm looking forward to seeing the other two all spruced up, but unless it's got some serious texture upgrades, releasing Blood Money as a 'HD' title seems... Cheeky.
