Interesting bit of news. EA has finally confirmed that they canceled Tiberium, an upcoming tactical shooter set in the Tiberium universe of C&C, and the spiritual successor of Renegade. I figured this would happen; there has been no new information for over six months, and the game wasn't at E3. It is a shame, I thought it looked promising.

Even more baffling is the reason. EA claims the game "did not meet internal EA quality standards." This is downright strange, I can't recall that I've heard of EA canceling games because of "quality control," and I think Tiberium looked rather good, even considering that the only footage they showed was alpha builds. Perhaps this is a sign that EA actually is living up to their recent announcements of internal changes to ensure quality games?

Thoughts?

Or perhaps it's a sign that even game companies are feeling the pinch and a lot more games will get cancelled in favour of maxium profit / user base games.
I'm not sayiong we'll be inundated with Need For Speeds etc. But C&C, of which I know nothing about, I'll be honest, is more 'niche gamer' and will be put on the back burner until the econamy is more stable.

Um...no it isn't. Command & Conquer is one of the longest-running, highest selling game franchises on the PC. I don't know the exact numbers now, but I do remember that the series sold over 21 million copies as of 2003, and there has been several C&C games since then. It is listed in the Guinness World Records: Gamer's Edition 2008 as the "Best selling RTS series."

C&C is hardly a "niche game," and the last C&C shooter did pretty damn well.

So what then? It wasn't filled with enough DRM, advertising, and human excrement to meet EA's standard, or was it that they can't see an option to sell add-on content for the game at a later date?

Is "EA Quality Standard" a new oxymoron to top "Military Intelligence"?

Well it's a shame, a non-RTS game or two could help C&C.
Admittedly, this was pretty much my thoughts when hearing this. What exactly IS the "quality standards" at EA? Because frankly, they seem more than ready to re-release an old game and claim it is new most of the time. I've seen games that looked far worse than Tiberium get green-lighted and eventually be released to "who cares?" reviews.

I've never heard of a game that EA canceled for "not meeting quality standards," whatever the hell that's supposed to mean.

EA Quality standards- A joke; king midos* on a CD; culling all who will make money, just not enough to buy a solid gold HUM-V with a full tank of gas; Frustratingly hopeless; As user friendly as a vest-bomb

*fake/poor quality, but good enough for those who don't know better or couldn't care less

Does that answer your question?

My apologies for my ignorance. That one passed me by.

Good riddance, that game looked so generic and bland it would've flopped and ruined C&C's good name.
Sure what with the 'desparate attempt for humanity's last stand' story it's a little shakey, but it did seem to be a good satisfying game that could cause for the fun police to give you a cookie.

There are so many things wrong with that statement (EA's, not Raven's), I'm not even going to bother.
