Tidus did cry.... several times..... and he ran from his problems plenty of times as well.... anyways FF10 is one of my favorite games of all time. I think the artwork and storythought are incredible and working with lvling aeons and getting secret aeons is really fun. also the lvling system in FF10 is one of my favorite of all FF's. Aaron is my favorite FF character (well lightning managed to make me doubt this) and i think every character has it's own intresting story,

fuck all FF haters, realise that artwork and story are important parts of an rpg

Yeah, every time a young male Final Fantasy character has problems, people tear them apart for no good reason. Seriously.

People say Tidus sucks because has daddy issues. So... when did problems relating to a distant and tough father become an irrelevant source for personal drama? Why is that not okay?

I also was annoyed when people bashed on Hope, from FFXIII. I mean, yeah, he was being kind of emo. BECAUSE IT MADE SENSE. He watched his mother die, then fall from a great height, then understandably blamed Snow for it and was consumed with revenge. Is that not understandable? What else would you do?

Heck, even Cloud's emo state in Advent Children made sense with the story. People need to stop looking at multi-dimensional characters as if they were one-dimensional. It doesn't work very well.

Because none of us can figure out how to pronounce his name. Is it "Tee-Dus" or "Tie-Dus"? The world may never know.

OT: Because he's from Final Fantasy, and whether or not there's a reason to hate him, they'll find a reason. Hell, I know people who hate Tidus because of the shade of blonde his hair is.

I don't think the hate Tidus gets has anything to do with the flaws of his character. It's mostly just people hating on Final Fantasy because they don't like Final Fantasy. Anyone who's actually played the game can tell you that while Tidus does complain more than the average protagonist, he's completely justified, and far from being outright "whiny".

For me Tidus was like some of the FFXIII cast. Annoying (especially voice acting) and inconsistent at first, but I learned to really like them later. The cast is one of the reasons I loved the newer FF games, but also the reason why I sometimes have trouble getting into them.

My best friend swears basically the same thing. Saying that hope starts off kinda whiney, but its understandable, and its ok, because he grows and evolves.

The way I see it, Yeah, he evolved, from a whiney anime emokid, into a anime cheerleader. Not a real positive change. Hope, and snow are both equally worthless. As for the question about what else are you supposed to do if you were hope? I dunno, perhaps put blame where blame is due and be pissed off at the mother who was walking her kid on a bataan death march, instead of the goofy mook who was at least trying to save people, but was helpless to counteract his own natural skill in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

The more I think about it, the more XIII feels like a rehash of X-2, because with the possible exception of Sahz, the most developed and fleshed out chars were the three females. I mean honestly, you could basically remove hope and Snow from the game all together, and the story really wouldnt have suffered. You could almost do it with Sahz, if it were not for Dodge (have no clue how Square spelled it)

My friend also poses a good theory, that in some of the cases, Final fantasy games would have ended up being alot better than they were, had the lead role gone to a supporting char, Specifically X giving the lead to auron over tidus, and giving the lead to Basch over Vaan in XII.

Either or, if you think about it, its not really a condition associated with final fantasy so much as it is an underlying condition prevalent in where square draws inspiration from for final fantasy. That would be Anime, which these char types abound in anime in general.

Its just odd to me, for me to be able to talk so critically of all of these games, yet they still make up some of my personal favored games over the last decade, so I guess what they are doing cant be all bad, whiney emokids and all.

The person reading it who didn't want it spoiled would be like "... um, what?" it makes no sense.

Arguing about spoiler tags though is plain sad and I think lower than both of us, I never used them and you think I should have. I am not going to change it so to continue to argue about it is a moot point.(I think I got the usage right)

when I say emotionally dead, I mean like when people say "shes all emotional" you know that shes sad or upset, generally bad feelings. You have never heard anybody say "shes emotional" only to find her laughing her head off. (sorry, for the stereotype)
I was not arguing about spoiler tags I was merely saying use them as they are called spoiler tags for a reason. At least let the person choose before they are spoiled or give a god indication of where it ends or that to participate in this thread you need to read what is in the tags.

"Emotionally Dead" and "Being Emotional" are different which should of been stated. A bit of a mix up on perception but I won't argue about that but say my meaning of emotionally dead is devoid of feeling and being unable to feed. Yes by your meaning of emotionally dead he is. Although as people seem to say he is whiny he is not whiny and never portays himself as such.

they tear them about becuase they arent manly men, who get over things in seconds... I don't know the real reason but it gets me also angry.

Tidus isn't so bad, he just dresses out of the trash bin.

I think the biggest problem with Tidus, is he is in the same game as Auron, a god among men. The badassiest of badasses. He carries around a freaking jug of what I can only imagine is some kind of badass liquor.

In comparison, it's hard not to look at Tidus and go, "You chose this guy over Auron to base your game on? Really?"

I mean, just look at him? How can Tidus compete?

As for the whiniest FF character, hmmm. I might have to go with Irvine on this one. He's all swagger, but when the going gets tough, he hides in the corner.

Damn, I thought this was misspelled topic about "Titus". Was looking forward to discussing great Stacy Keach lines. "I'm dirty all over. Really dirty!" :)

Vaan isn't a main character

anyway, like Blind Sight said, it its's probably not the concept that people hate but the awful script that makes all scenes just akward and annoying

and Hope is bad since his rage turn on wrong guy with no good explanation and the game agrees with Hope's moronic idea

I've just found all the Final Fantasy Characters to be pretty whiney and emo since and including VII but since X the characters have just not been well written compared to the old PS1 days.

Auron overshadowed Tidus and the rest of the cast of this game, hell most FF games. But that doesn't mean i hated Tidus either. He was interesting, and yea he went through hell and back, but personally i'd rather see him just "man up" and go forward lead the team and kick some ass without all the whining and soul searching. But that's what makes FF FF. On a side note, I truly think FFX was the first time square nailed the Romantic relationship angle. No two have ever been more believable then Tidus and Yuna.
