NO! Not the tigers! That is my favorite animal and they are extinct almost? This is the 2nd or 3rd time. First the sabertooths, then the white bengals, and now tigers in general? What is it with people and tigers?

at this point they are a dead species anyway to have even a remotely good gene pool they would need more individuals then just 3600. even if we tried at this point in 10 years they would all be too inbred to stand up.

Make some sort of natural shelter, let 'em run free in some huge area where we know they can survive. That's my opinion. Can someone educated explain if this is a good/bad idea?

I have a solution to the problem: Kill the people that want tiger penis as some sort of folk remedy and feed them to the tigers!

Time to start sterilizing poor nations, right?

Maybe force every country to have a one child/birth per female/couple?

We could force medicine making companies to stop creating life saving drugs and procedures.

Make assisted suicide legal.

Create an age limit where you've given X amount of time to 'get your affairs in order' before you're taken down.
NOW you're talking!

I like how they wait until it's almost too late to start. Man, you humans are slow-minded.

I think species-relocation would help, possibly to Northern Canada for some subspecies. Of course, your feeble human minds would consider it too risky. They're almost dead; relocation may be the only solution right now.

Agayek has a point, though. Dealing with new species, however invasive, is a part of evolution. It doesn't mean we shouldn't try, but it's really just adaptation. Look at pandas; they just DON'T want to reproduce. Doomed to die out.
"You humans"? What are you, Penguin-Sapiens?

Domesticate them. Dogs and cats thrive because they're protected by humans as pets, Breed them out of being wild animals, because lord knows there ain't enough wild for them to live in anymore, and none will magically appear for them.
Domesticate them. Really. Sounds great, although the dog and cat thing took a while to achieve, didn't it? Like, THOUSANDS OF YEARS?

I'm imagining a dude bringing the last two tigers together for breeding and feel so heart warmed that he moves up to them and says "you're safe now, your species will go on forev" and he gets eaten.

Cruel cruel irony.

I dont forsee them doing alot to be honest. The UN is all about countries gathering and look waht they do. We just have to face that we as humans are destructive creatures, and have pretty much topped the evolutionary chart. There's no more survival of the fittest to put us in our places. We're just letting ourselves over populate the species, kinda like deer.

Its a sad thing to say, but theres just as much good to things like Cholera, AIDS, Smallpox, polio, etc. as there are bad.

But to be on topic, its kinda awesome to see the countries putting together and effort, but it wont stop anyhting. Poachers gonna poach.
Did you just... did you just say deadly diseases were a good thing because they kill humans?
Even if we are destructive by nature, do you realise just how McIhateHumankindBecauseImEmoDouchebag you sound by making that statement? Yes, we as humans make mistakes, but we do alot of beautiful things as well.

OT: Let's hope they keep the species alive, big cats are really quite pretty.

I don't really see this as a solution. It's merely a punishment.

I don't think we (humans) will let the tigers die out. They're way too popular, and as we know, the world is one big popularity contest i.e. Pandas.

Fuck the Panda. A world with pandas and without tigers is a very sad world.

Oh shit.

Why is everything dying?
Because (some.....ummm, most actually) humans are arseholes.

It's tough to survive when a billion people think that your foreskin is some kind of aphrodisiac. Fucking morons :/

And yes, I did just refer to the whole of China as 'fucking morons'!

Meh. It's unfortunate if they die out, but if they can't survive on their own, it's not something we should be overly concerned about. Species go extinct at least on a weekly basis, it's not a big deal. Hell, it's part of evolution/natural selection.
Except it's not,
Tigers would have had no problem surviving if not for us hunting them and stealing their terriroty if sombody shot you it'd be murder not natural selection.

Sorry but humans need to die and in large numbers we are extermly overpopulated as a species if it weren't for factory farming and genetic engineering all but a third of us would starve to death,
And then certain govornments pay people to have more childeren,
This planet is so fucked.

i don't really care that I'll never see a tiger again as I've never seen a real life one anyway, in fact if i go trekking through a jungle i should hope that i don't see a tiger

Why do people even hunt them? They do it because they want a piece of the last treasures the population has to offer, but if they stopped hunting now, the population would grow again, and then we'd have to hunt them as population-control. Also everything they like about the tiger(hides) can be made with technology. Btw, Asians should stop hunting them to make stimulating substances out of them. It doesn't work. And it's stupid. And gross.

Many people in China have a belief that various tiger parts have medicinal properties, including as pain killers and aphrodisiacs. There is no scientific evidence to support these beliefs. The use of tiger parts in pharmaceutical drugs in China is already banned, and the government has made some offenses in connection with tiger poaching punishable by death. Furthermore, all trade in tiger parts is illegal under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora and a domestic trade ban has been in place in China since 1993. Still, there are a number of tiger farms in the country specialising in breeding the cats for profit. It is estimated that between 5,000 and 10,000 captive-bred, semi-tame animals live in these farms today.(Wikpedia)

Species go extinct on a daily basis. Over a hundred each day.

seriously why are animal rights activists against zoo's, they don't have to hunt for there food and they've got territory and (usually) a mate, that is all a tiger needs to be comfortable
