Ehh, kind of getting fedup of devs taking advantage of peoples good will as an excuse to push out garbage in the name of indie. Since Notch did it, every indie dev on the planet seems to think they can just release half finished products with promise of it being finished "sometime" ( See Terraria ) and it's getting on my nerves.

I get that most of the ideas are unpolished, But garbage really?

From what I gather they are just making public their internal pitch process,(Which is a wonderful idea, would love this at my work) letting people vote on the best and buy the prototypes with eventual released product if the project goes well. I'm not getting the 'Taking advantage' Vibe here, when its well explained that this is a Prototype project, Also It's doublefine, they have a track record for actually do finishing their games, so why lump them into a generic group?

Sorry, just not getting your reasons here.

I kind of wonder whether those months, when Valve took a timeout for their "Directed Development Experiment", came out of Wolpaw (given his involvement with both companies and time of transition) mentioning Amnesia Fortnight and Newell picking up on it.

I'm sure the concept is not all that unusual in the business and in a way I suppose every day has the potential to be much like that, at Valve, but still...

It's a good thing to let designers run free for 2 weeks I think - see what ideas formulate, see what ideas have been brewing for a while and finally have their chance. When working on 1 game for a long time, it gets very tedious, to the point where a lot of people just can't keep pushing and finish their game. I guess this is a bit like one of those development jam competitions, where people take on a 2 week project, or even a 1 week, or 1 weekend project... but done internally.

Really I don't think everyone realises just how tough it can be to develop the same game for years, a 2-week break might just be enough to save the project from mediocrity, let the designers and artists get their ideas off their chest, then get back to the job in hand. It's about as close to a summer vacation as most programmers get :D.
