As of right now, as I type this, Time magazine is taking your opinions of the 100 Most Influential People for 2009.

http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/0,28757,1883644,00.html

At this exact moment, guess who's #1?

moot, from 4Chan.

I'm seeing Barack Obama at 127, his wife at 41, and Emmanuel (his chief of staff) at 18. John Stewart was #4, and Ron Paul was #2.

Discuss.

This will go as well as when they rickrolled the Mets.

If this is the best 4chan can do I am not impressed.

I have a feeling there will be fudged results at the end. Time magazine isn't ... crazy.

I mean, Jonas Brothers as #3 can't possibly stay there while the Nobel Prize winner is at #68.

No the Jonas Brothers i can see. They didn't influence me, but I can see where someone could argue they influenced people (tons of girls).

If the results get "fudged", it'll also be a smudge on their journalistic integrity.

Time still had some journalistic integrity?

I thought most younger people read it to look at the pictures?

They don't have to fudge anything. All they have to do is do other polls and then give this poll so little weight it won't matter.

They do this every year.

I'm just using them as an example. Time usually ranks the Nobel Prize winner pretty high. It has to displace one of the top 5.

EDIT:

Rupert Murdock ... wait. Doesn't he own stock in Time magazine?

And he's got such a high approval on there now that I doubt anyone can out-do him (73%, second place being 57%).

I could argue the Jonas Brothers being "more influential" than a Nobel Prize winner.

Lemme wait while you collect yourself from rage.

You just have to assume most people have heard of the Jonas Brothers and not many have heard of the Nobel Prize winner. And since it tends to be "of 2009" I doubt anything a Nobel Prize winner works on is going to influence people that much in a year.

*I hate the Jonas Brothers and the entire pop music fad that is going on now*

I'm not angry about the Jonas Brothers. I understand it, too.

I'm just saying - Time doesn't normally rank pop music stars above Nobel Prize winners. I won't be surprised if it's "fudged" in the end.

It's not going to get fudged. They're going to do what all smart pollsters do.

"Oh look, 90000000 people voted for Colbert, putting him 1st, but every other poll we did has him at 31st"

Like they're going to think moot has this broad appeal across all demographics and it wasn't everyone at 4chan voting on every unique ID they could find.

Multiple unique IDs? Who needs that? I hit refresh and I can vote again. Sure the multiple votes should get weeded out if things are done intelligently, but can that really be expected from this?

These are finalists, btw.

They already took votes from the Internet and moot is still on there. There are no write-ins from here on out. Time believes people really think he's that influential.

I think Time doesn't understand the entire 4Chan flood thing.

But really, who does?

And now, Robert Gates has found his way to the top.

Man, this thing shifts around faster than 4Chan polls.

moot was bumped off the top 5 and then back on the top 5.

Out of 200+ people? He'll get a short blurb about 4chan and lolcats. Which is probably somewhat warranted.
