What happened to olden times? When there were no age limits for jobs? When could a man ruffle a boys hair w/o being called a pervert? When did kids used to listen to their parents? When were kids respectful to adults? What happened to the old fashoined ways? When was the world good, respectful, and nice to each other?

I myself am a 15 year-old freshman in high school, and it disgusts me how kids my age don't repsect anyone and feel that the world owes them something? I want everyone to respect and be kind to each and every person they meet, Even if it is just being nice to a person you hate! I was raised to respect my elders and people of higher authority than I, it's ridiculus how other people in this world act nowadays.

What happened ladies and gentlemen? Please discuss.

I wouldn't exactly call the "old times" a thing to be proud of. There was racism and homophobia everywhere, crime was all over the place, politicians couldn't care less about the working class and technology was, obviously, much worse.

You know, One of the first recorded instances of an old guy yelling something to the effect of "you rotten kids are degrading society!" was from the time of Julius Ceasar? You're just ahead of your time in maturity. Everyone else will catch up sooner or later.

Oh, kids these days with their rap music, and their cell phones, and their internet, and their idealism...

I believe this sudden upsurge in disrespect among children is directly a result of the outlaw of corporal punishment in many regions of the world; if someone didn't listen to you in the olden days, you could smack them silly, but now, the results of that aren't quite as pleasant.

Nothing stops the march of time and change. In ten years, those same kids you're complaining about now will be complaining about the next generation, with their HoloTV and their PSVs and their Microsoft-Nintendo XCube 720s.

The world's always going to suck. Best you can do is make sure you aren't part of the problem.

Well, to be blunt, the population is more up in arms in hysteria over every little crime despite there being a general decrease, the working class is more interacting with politics (see politicians Twitters and Facebook accounts), homophobia and racism now has a stigma to it and, obviously, technology wasn't as advanced as now.

True, very true, but imo technology is tearing people apart. I reckon it's one of the biggest factors in why people are the way they are these days. I would rather go back to when people were required to do things, instead of machines etc.

1. There was plenty of shit produced back in "the good old days", just most of it got forgotten because it was shit. Conversely, there's plenty of good stuff produced now, you just have to look for it. In 50 years people are going to be repeating the same tired argument.

2. Not gonna lie, I kind of think my ability to go to college and have a job in the field I love (and exist; miscegenation used to be illegal, you know) outweighs the benefits of classic rock.

A few bad apples fucked it up (in some cases literally). In the olden days people could do things because no one had yet abused it, amore relevantly the media hadn't blown it so out of proportion. They don't even allow people to go into the cockpits of small jetliners going to places that terrorists wouldn't even think of bombing, despite the statistics of it occurring being astronomically against it happening.

You have to remember that those days had their bad moments. Yeah, the times are really not that good right now, and the olden days of which you speak would be a better place to live in, but you gotta remember that every time had its downside.

I think that it's actually improved matters since it's increased the amount of education the working class has had to received, which in turn has allowed them to work their way up to the middle class a lot easier. Technology has also decreased the amount of scribed roles with people and more focused on "you can do whatever you wish". It's also allowed people to research whatever they wish with greater need with billions of pieces of information within only a few clicks and some typing.

The only significant difference between then and now is that, well, we live in the now. That's about it, really. Kids always rebel against their parents in some way or another. People have also been assholes to each other and, hell, during the Roarin' 20s the only reason people were nice to each other was because EVERYONE was packing at least a derringer. So yeah. It's all relative.

The past is lucky because unlike the present it gets a nice shiny gleam of nostalgia slapped on it by everyone who remembers it.

And to quote a famous dead guy:
"We are here and it is now; all other knowledge is moonshine."

Shall we get you a lawn to tell kids to stay off?
The only diffrence between then and now is we hear about all the bad things that happened. If blisful ignorance is what you seek then stop watching the news, that should make your world a better place instantly!

Seriously why do you wishfuly speak of a time you know only through tales and media. As for respecting elders, I belive being polite and truthful is very important, but respect must be earned, nothing and no-one gets it by default.

Good old days are only good until you remember why we got the hell away from them in the first place. We still are, actually.

No age limits for jobs, no minimum wage for jobs. Non-perverts wouldn't be called perverts, but "perverts" would be beat up on the street. Kids listened to their parents and no one cared how you got them to listen. Kids were respectful and teachers were tyrants. People have never been all that nice to each other however, or so I suspect.
