Has there ever been a game that you never played, or played, but never finished because somthing scary in the game freaked you out? Everyone I have talked to has said that one game or another has scared them too much to play it.

So has a game ever scared you like this before?

I turned off Resident Evil 4 the first time I got hacked up by Dr Salvador and stayed away from it for a couple of days. I had to finish it though because it was such a fun game. Yeah, that was an exhilarating game I think.

This happened a few time when I was 6 or 7. One time in Super Mario 64 due to the eel and two times in Star Fox 64 due to Andross.

back when I first got zelda:OoT I couldn't finish the shadow temple because the level design and music just freaked me out(to finish the game I borrowed one of my friends save files that had already finished the shadow temple and beat the game that way), last year after I re-bought it for nostalgic purposes, I was able to finally finish it but I had to mute the tv, I could go through the level but the music still creeped me out.

Years and years and years ago, when I had Super Metroid for SNES, I was freaked out completely by the prospect of going to Maridia. An underwater realm, full of enemies who were quicker than me, and that music... I totally couldn't do it. And then, of course, a few months later, I went and owned that place up, but yeah. I was, ooh, 6 or 7?

The first time I was stuck in a labyrinth with a Cyberdemon stalking me in Doom II after a marathon gaming session in a pitch black room at 4am - I'll never forget those growls and stomping footsteps following me wherever I went.

I didn't exit the game, opting instead to hit the power button and shut down the computer. That was the first time I was genuinely scared.

I've always loved horror themes in games and movies. Nowadays though, although I can still stomach any movie out there, most any game with a horror theme will give me the willies - even that level in SWAT4 where you penetrate this sect and find those children's graves in the basement was too much for me and I had to pass on that level.

Looking back at my backlog of unfinished games, most of them have an elevated "fright factor". I guess being a parent does that to some people...

BioShock, in the very beginning when you leave the Bathspher. I was too busy listening and looking for the splicer (defenseless)to hear frank tell me to lure her out. I thought I was supposed to battle her alone or something. So I slowly, slowly crept around. Getting freaked out each time something moved. Thankfully, she gets scared off by a Security Bot, but dang.

Oh, and I refuse to play the Gears of War level with the Berserker in the greenhouse thing if I'm alone. That's too difficult and makes me freak out hearing her rush towards me when I'm running.

The first time i went through ravenholm in halflife 2 i had to turn it off right after i met the first fast headcrab zombies. I just wasnt used to that kind of stress in a game. (i usually play fantasy rpg's) but a few days later i came back mentally prepared for what i had to face and got through it just fine.

Pain acknowledged! I remember online it was case of luring him away from the rogues and sorcerers.

Also, Doom 3. Just couldn't hack the predictable. Corner, clear, MONSTER BEHIND YOU OMG LOOK OUT! Corner, clear, MONSTER BEHIND YOU OMG LOOK OUT! It's not that it was menacing, it would just make me jump every time and I don't need a heart attack at my age. I might go back to it at some point.
