The Timesplitters games are the greatest video games ever made. You will not now or ever convince me otherwise, so don't even try.
They are utterly perfect in so many ways. The game goes for a more cartoony look than photorealistic which gives it its unique sense of charm that is not found in any other game. It has a wonderful sense of humor but it doesn't beat you over the head with it. The soundtracks are absolutely fantastic. The story is funny, unique, and uses time travel in a way that isn't retarded. And each time period you visit is full of its own unique characters, weapons, environments, and sets of missions.
The multiplayer is the greatest amount of fun I have ever had with a game. With a selection of over
one hundred unique, funny, and charming characters, plus customizable bot and weapon loadouts create for some insanely silly matches(Snowmen vs. Gingerbread men. FIGHT!). On top of that it has a wide range of game mods. And while there are the standard "deathmatch, CTF(Which is actually capture the bag), and assault. It adds its own unique flare to those modes. Some more of the unique modes are Virus, which is one of the greatest gametypes ever, and a monkey assistance match, where the player in last place gets his own
team of monkeys with rocket launchers to aid him. Also, its 4 player split-screen and you can play with bots. Which is practically unheard of these days.
And on top of
all of that, you have the mapmaker. Timesplitter's mapmaker is the best mapmaker ever made. Its so simple to use, yet its so deep you can even create story missions in it. Plus, the bots work on custom maps, and custom map, so that also adds into the pure awesome that is Timesplitters. Virus on a custom created maze map with 4 friends on split-screen with bots is the greatest fun I have ever had in a multiplayer mode in any game. Period.
And as for the sequel aspect, Timesplitters doesn't fall into the standard "sequal is like the first game, only with more stuff" routine that every other game does. Each Timesplitters game offers a unique and amazing experience that is not in any of the other Timesplitters games. They did unique things with each sequel, continuously keeping the franchise fresh and fun, while not making the sequels inferior to the titles that come after it.
In closing, Timesplitters is the greatest game series of all time. Hands down. No other game or series has brought together such pure fun that was in each game. Each game is amazing in its own special way, and everyone should buy and play these games. If you don't, I pity you. These games are dirt cheap nowadays, and it should be a crime to not play them. Plus, Crytek themselves stated if demand was high enough, they would commence work on Timeplitters 4. So buy these games, make noise, spread the word. We need a new Timesplitters. We need Timesplitters to show all these damn photorealistic FPS games how to properly do fun. If Timesplitters 4 was ever announced, or some type of HD bundle remake, I would immediately drop whatever I am doing, and rush to the nearest Gamestop as fast as possible and pre-order the most expensive special edition.
Yes, I am a fanboy. I will always be a fanboy of this series. And I will never be ashamed to admit it.
EDIT: And how could I have forgotted to include the challenges! The Timesplitters games are loaded with unique challenges that, when completed, unlock maps and characters. There are many, many challenges, and there are even co-op challenges. Each one is hard, fun, and extremely rewarding. It operates by the "bronze, silver, gold, platinum" scale and is absurdly fun to play and complete. Normally I don't go for these kinds of things, but I absolutely love them in Timesplitters.
