Hey guys help me out here, problems with Sarcasm

1) Giver is too subtle, (tonality, body language etc)
2) Listener is too deluded (high self esteem)
3) Listener takes everything as sarcasm (low self esteem)
4) Listener is too logical

Imagine taking one day, and interpreting everything everyone says as sarcasm, and you'll get what I mean. Like Seth Green in 'Sex Drive'

"Hey, nice hat"

"I like your jacket"

"That's a cool hairstyle man"

"Nice kill, you totally pwned that n00b"

Sarcasm is the lowest form of humor. That being said its still some of the best fun you can have. I like the opposite of your idea, taking everything everyone says as completely literal and logical, so your #4.

Oh, I really hope you're able to figure out what sarcasm is. ;)

(Best tip: If someone says something directly in contravention of their usual speaking/writing style, assume it's sarcasm.)

Sarcasm so does not work in text. See? Reading that back, I can see how easily that first sentence could be interpreted as being sarcasm.

I only recently found out how much sarcasm has slipped into my regular speech pattern. One of my co-workers has Asperger syndrome and does not get sarcasm at all.

That was an awkward conversation...

When I'm engaging in a somewhat extensive sarcastic diatribe with someone I don't know very well, I have a habit of tilting my head upwards slightly and wagging it from side to side slightly. It works, and doesn't look as stupid as it sounds. Hey, I need to take precautions to make sure my sarcastic comments aren't taken at face value. I've accidentally come across as a racist homophobe once without that method.

When people know me better, they know when I'm being sarcastic (thankfully). I need to cut down on my sarcasm, awful habit, but it's part of my incredibly dry sense of humour.

Anyway, just pay attention to what the person is saying. If it seems radically out of sync with reality, or said in a sing-song voice, assume they're an idiot or acting sarcasticly.

Humans should start acting like the Elcor from Mass Effect and say what tone their next sentence will governed by. E.g. "Mild rebuke. Your just jealous of my pimp hat", and "Sarcastic. Your awesome at being sarcastic." Easy see?

Wooow, you are so smart and intelligent. Teach me how to be like you!

The lowest form of humor are fart jokes, racist jokes and half of the sex jokes.

Really, the very lowest form of humor? Lower than the fart joke? I mean, sarcasam may not be the world's most sophisticated form of humor, but certainly it requires a level of intelligence above the level necessary for a fart joke.

*EDIT* and I get beat to the punch by Abedus, who said... pretty much exactly what I said. Just a couple seconds before I said it.

What about doing it in a monotone voice?

Imagine Alan Rickman (Severnus Snape) being sarcastic.

You'll never be able to tell at all.

Sarcasm isn't the lowest form of humor and is the highest form of intelligence.
Fixed that for you.

Sarcasm is funny, and it isn't the lowest form of it. This belief was invented by people who have no humour and just decide anything they can't appreciate or copy isn't funny. These people are also pissed off by sarcasm as they can't match the wit of the person using it on them. These people are buzz kills and basically utter dicks who would have you cleaning the walls as their idea of fun.

People always seem to think I'm being sarcastic. I tried complimenting my lecturer's shirt and she told me to get out! That mocking her won't be tolerated... I was being sincere. Maybe I just sound sarcastic...

OT: What was the topic about again?
