I bought Titanfall a few days ago, and I'm surprised that the game is as balanced as it is. Personally, I'm glad that it doesn't have hundreds of weapons with hundreds of customization options. After awhile, it gets overwhelming for me. Anyway, I was wondering what some of the tactics and pilot/titan load-outs you guys use.

Agreed on the lack of customisation being a good thing, too much of it and it ruins the game for me (Battlefield 3 and 4 in particular).

My Pilot loadout is the Carbine, Sidewinder, Satchel Charges and Cloak. My play-style is to be as fast and aggressive as possible, always stick to the rooftops, wall run as much as possible, always stay cloaked and kill everyone I come across. It works quite well, as my overall K/D vs Pilots stands at 2.0.

As for Titans I use two different loadouts. One uses the Chaingun, Vortex Shield, Warp Fall, Rocket Salvo and Nuclear Ejection. and the other uses the 40mm Cannon, Vortex Shield, Auto-Reloader, Rocket Salvo and Core Extender. I switch between the two depending on which I feel like using.

But yeah I'm seriously loving this game, pretty much addicted to it at the moment. The amount of mobility you have as a pilot is ridiculous, and so much fun. And with the contrast between Pilot and Titan combat, it never gets old. Every match is just insanely hectic and full of "wow!" moments.

Edit:

Anyone who is on the fence about buying this game, do it. Don't let the ridiculous amount of cynicism seen everywhere on the internet persuade you otherwise. It really is a revolution in FPS games, the only FPS game I've played that comes close to being as fun as this is Bad Company 2.

I've been mixing it up with the loadouts quite a lot actually. It's obvious that every weapon is designed to be used in specific situations.

I started out with a Smart Pistol + cloak loadout and played a couple of hours in different game modes. I did alright with it from the start, but this loadout really shines in attrition since it lets you mow down grunts and specters really fast.

Then I moved on to shotgun as a primary weapon, which is great in Hardpoint, since you have a good idea of where you're going to run into other pilots in tighter areas.

I just unlocked everything for the Carbine, which really is the most well rounded of all the weapons. It's accurate and has a high fire rate and can be used effectively in every situation.

Currently I'm trying my hand at the two different sub-machine guns, but I haven't quite nailed them down yet. I'm using these with the Stim ability and play mostly CTF, where speed, mobility and survivability is key once you get the flag.

As for Titan Loadouts, I started with the 40mm cannon, since that's what I used most of in the beta. This is a gun that packs quite a punch on titans and can be used for sniping pilots fairly well. But now I have two loadouts that I find myself using most often.

1. Stryder titan with Chaingun, Electric Smoke and Multi-Target Missile System. The Stryder is fantastic at dashing around, flanking enemies and just keeping out of the line of fire. Since the chaingun is so accurate you can lay down a storm of bullets from wherever you have line of sight, and charge up as many missiles as you want or need while firing. It's great since you don't have to blow your ordinance load with a single button press.

2. Ogre titan with Triple-Threat, Electric Smoke, Rocket Salvo and Big Punch. The Triple Threat can just demolish other titans as soon as you get in close. Added to the fact that you can aim and arc your grenades around corners and over buildings to mortar an entire area with exploding doom. Someone tries to dash through your field of grenades and get up in your grill? Punch that sucker right in his robot jaw right back in to the grenades and blast him to smithereens with a rocket salvo for good measure.

I generally use an SMG (C.A.R. or compact, depends on the map), Stim, and Run-and-Gun. The rest of the loadout can vary, but those three best facilitate my go-fast-and-shoot-things playstyle. And with Run-and-Gun, I don't even have to stop going fast to shoot things!

On the Titan side of things, the two main loadouts I use are:
Ogre, Triple Threat, Electric Smoke, Multi-Target Missile System, Fast Autoloader, Big Punch
Stalker, Quad Rocket, Vortex Shield, Cluster Missile, Nuclear Ejection, Core Extender

I'll switch between my Titans largely depending on which I'm in the mood for, although I find the second one works much better on more open maps than the first.

The game has 64,800 possible Pilot loadouts and 1,440 possible Titan loadouts, and neither of those figures are even including weapon mods. There's still a lot of customization, with a bunch of different loadouts available to suit different styles of play. The difference is that rather than having gajillions of minutely different options, Titanfall has a handfull of majorly different options.

Agreed, Titanfall is crazy fun.

I switch around pilot weapons, though I don't not like the sniper that much. Besides snipers and the smart pistol, I pretty much switch around to any of the weapons when I feel like it, though the SMG is one of my favorites, and the hemlock can be fun.
My strategy is fairly simple, which ends up essentially being don't stand still as much as possible.
For Titans, again, almost anything works for me, though I tend to stay away from the Ogre more since I like mobility. My 4 favorite titan/weapon combos seem to be the Stryder with the Quad rocket (preferably with the rapid fire mod, but if not it is still good), the Atlus with an Arc Cannon, Stryder with the Plasma Rifle, and Atlus with the chain gun (preferably with that minigun like firing attachment). For all of those besides the plasma, I use the vortex shield since I really like that, and for the plasma rifle I generally use the particle shield so I can charge up the rifle fire behind it.

Loadouts aside, keep in mind you will be spending alot of time getting to know ALL the weapons. After you hit 50 and regen the first time, you will have challenges that you will HAVE to complete before you can regen again. The ones for Gen 2 arent bad at all, but they will get harder each time. Ergo, instead of running around with the loadout you REALLY want, you will be using weapons and such that might severely hamper your offensive. Anyways, I prefer the ogre for everything except capture the flag, which I use a stryder. I prefer the chaingun with accelerator, or the 40mm, and electric smoke is a must.

I wrote a something on Titanfall weapons if anyone is interested. [http://www.reddit.com/r/titanfall/comments/20uqu4/titanfall_pilot_weapon_analysis/]

Personally my two favorite pilot loadouts:

* EVA-8 Shotgun (High Capacity Drum) with B-3 Sidewinder and Satchel Charges. Stim, Power Cell and Warpfall Transmitter.

* C.A.R. SMG (Counter Weight) with RE-45 Autopistol and Satchel Charges. Stim, Run N' Gun and Warpfall Transmitter.

For my Titans my two favorites have the exact same base: Stryder core, Electric Smoke, Nuclear Ejection and Auto-eject. The difference is that one is using the 40mm cannon (Extended Magazine) and the other is using Quad Rockets (Rapid Fire).

It's excellent, I've really taken to it. I'm still on the fence as to whether or not it was worth as much as it cost. In fact I'm quite sure that it isn't considering how much I've played DayZ and nether, both half the price and much more engaging.

I'm an SMG guy. moving very quickly, focusing on capturing points and routing out enemy snipers and grunts. I practically never get inside my titan unless we've won the match and I want to take shots at the enemy dropship. I user it a lot but I just don't pilot it. considering you can get a one hit kill if you drop your titan on another titan.

I put it in guard mode on hardpoints or just get it to follow me in attrition. It's the best distraction ever.

Electric smoke and multi targeting missiles are a must on all my Titans, other than that....I just point and shoot at whatever moves.

I was wondering this the other day though. I was stood on GAME last week and saw an 80 odd page Titanfall strategy guide, whats the need for this? If there was a single player campaign with collectibles and items, sure I can see the appeal. But for what is basically a massive multiplayer deathmatch, I can't see the need for a book this thick.

I just stick between the Carbine and C.A.R. SMG. Mostly the Carbine since it has better range. It's also the most balanced weapon in the game between range, recoil, and power. In a game where everyone can just jump, wall run, rocket jump, and launch off surfaces, I've found sniping to be almost impossible.

I tried using the smart pistol, but for some reason I can never get a lock on fast enough.

I refuse to use shotguns simply out of principle.

As for Titans, I just use Atlas, with Nuclear Ejection, the XO-16 Chaingun with the Accelerator mod, and of course the electric smoke. I love the chaingun with all that ammo, easy for taking out grunt and pilots, and it fires so much ammo at other Titans they sort of freak out at the constant damage. Combine that with the Multi-target Missile System and I can destroy fairly easily, especially if I have a little backup.

I still love this game, but my love died down a bit when I realized just how bad I still am at PC FPS games. In Battlefield 4, I'm always first or second at the end of each match. In Titanfall, I either end up focusing too much on grunts, or too much on pilots, so my score suffers, and I end up pretty low on the score board. Unfortunately I'm the competitive type in games like these, so that's where half my enjoyment comes from.

I hop between 2 main loadouts for both Pilot and Titan.

My primary preferred pilot loadout is the G2A4 Rifle, Autopistol, Mag-launcher, mines, cloak, and parkour kit. While in practice full-auto weapons might be more effective, I prefer the style of a higher damage, semi-auto weapon, as more aiming is involved (usually). The G2A4 just speaks to me.

My second preferred pilot loadout is C.A.R. SMG, revolver, sidewinder, arc 'nade, that radar "see-all-enemies-through-walls" thing, and the run'n'gun kit. Despite my general dislike of rapid fire weapons the C.A.R. is rather fun to use.

As for titans I switch between an Atlas with the 40. cannon and lock on missiles and an Ogre with the XO chaingun and cluster missile. Both with nuclear ejection.

Nothing is more satisfying than cooking the asshole who thought rodeoing you is a good idea, and it's a lot more flashy than what me and my friends simply call the "Nazi Gas" (electric smoke).

Yeah that is what I like about it. Rather than having a million guns (that are all pretty much the same), and a million different attachments, you instead have one gun for each category, and a few attachments and mods for each one. Makes things much more simple and balanced.

I don't play the game but my brother does.
He decided he would put some strategies that he didn't think folks know much about into a video or 2 explaining things.

I thought the Spectre Hacking Strategy is an interesting take.

Haha, I guess I'll take that as high praise.
Interestingly Yahtzee summed up how I feel dead on
Eh, I can't listen to anything Yahtzee (or any similar reviewer) says, too much cynicism for my tastes. All they ever do is bemoan how games these days are shit, which I disagree with completely.

My primary pilot loadout is EVA-8 shotgun (leadwall), B3 wingman, Mag Launcher, frag grenades, stim, power cell, and minion detector. The shotgun in Titanfall is a beast, and even with the leadwall it still one-shots enemies most of the time. The stim + Power cell really helps get in close to the shotgun's ideal range. This loadout just really suits my reckless playstyle, and I've been using it (or at least, a build close to it) since the beta.

My main Titan loadout is Stryder titan, 40mm cannon (extended magazine), electric smoke, cluster missile, nuclear ejection, and survivor. Honestly, this loadout could use some work, as I don't really accomplish much with the nuclear ejection or survivor perks. That being said, 40mm cannon is definitely my favorite titan weapon, and electric smoke is handy against pesky pilots. I also really like the cluster missile, as it is great against pilots trying to hide in buildings, and does a surprising amount of damage to titans.

My secondary Titan loadout is Stryder titan, Triple threat (extended magazine), electric smoke, rocket salvo, dash quickcharger, and big punch. This loadout is designed to get up close and beat the snot out of other titans. I've had mixed success with it, and it is a really gimmicky loadout. But I have fun with it, so there's that.

P.S. If you get the burn card that grants unlimited invisibility, make a pilot loadout with a silenced submachine gun and the enhanced parkour kit. Then just wallhang near a point in hardpoint, and watch as you single-handedly protect that point for the entire match. Cheap as hell, but really fun.
