I normally go with the default name because when I have to think of one on my own I always just name the character after a trait or a different character. In persona 3 I ended up naming MC Oz Rigel, I love names with Zs in them for some reason and since his hair is blue like the star Rigel.

Except for Final Fantasy I'm always my real name. For some reason I was never comfortable with my own name in a Final Fantasy game, no clue why.

Usually I stick with the given name unless it's a series where the character is more of a blank slate. Notably Legend of Zelda and Pokemon, where I go with ether my name or a character from another RPG. Like Isaac from Golden Sun or something.

It varies, depending on my mood. I occasionally name people "Sup" or "Sup Dawg" if the game will let me, to make things more amusing.
"Sup Dawg, We need your help!"
I also occasionally use "I say" or "My dear fellow" if there are enough characters available in the name slot.

I usually go with Jack for the first male and Jazz for the first female. In playthroughs after that I get creative.

[small]*Looks shiftily at 'Professor Dicknibble'*[/small]

But when I play Legend of Zelda, I leave it as Link.

His horse is called Muffin, though.

I use 'Asscunt' or Pissflaps' for the first character, then my own name for my 'do everything in the game 100% complete' run.

Why the hell is the thread called 'Titty Shepard'? o_O?
And on-topic, I usually have a range of names available, for both males and females, depending on my mood.
I'd imagine because that's what the OP names his Shepard.

If a singleplayer game, Kerrigan (Because it's always taken for some reason on Multiplayer), and on Multiplayer, it will be something to do with the periodic table.

I had two possible outcomes when seeing "Titty Shepard"
1) A person who shepards herds of wild breasts
2) A female Shepard from mass effect who is unnaturally well endowed

I was a little disappointed.

OT: I generally name characters "Hydros" but it doesn't really fit many settings so I'm thinking of new names to use. In games where the character already has a name I'll leave as is most of the time, but in pokemon I will always name the rival something stupid like newfag or some such thing to make it more amusing.

On my last FF7 playthrough, I called everyone old names, for example Roger, Bertram, Betty, Mildred etc. Gave a classic baroque feel to the game. Next game I play thgouh though, I will likely subsrcibe to the unskippable logic and call people things like "a fool", "an emo" etc. Games that only have 1 character I usually pick a random name, so my Sheppard's are called Siouxie and Carmella (I had just been watching the Soppranos)

For the old FF games I would call them all the same thing, or names that reflect their personality. But in Pokemon I like to give them all human names, theres just something funny about calling your Charizard 'Dave'.. or Stevo or Big Kev.

Sometimes I give them real names, but sometimes I name them Asshole.
My friend did that with his Fallout 3 Character. It was hilarious.

"Your mother and I have been thinking. What do you think about:

Asshole

That's a good name, don't you think? Fits you perfectly!"
