Thank God I'm safe from that since I live on the other side of the Atlantic. I hope.

Oh god why, TLC and History channel are beyond saving now... At least they haven't completely ruined BBC Knowledge for me, there is still hope yet!

The Learning Channel where you don't learn anything! In the past, it actually had documentaries about science and history. That was ages ago and part of reason why I quit TV upon seeing what is on history and tlc nowadays. The few history shows on the history channel are of the elementary grade level anyway. What does ice road trucking have to do with history?

Same vein of thought.... Discovery channel used to cover anthropology documentaries, archeology shows about lesser known cultures and now it is about guys who ride motorcycles....
So, history was better when it was the all WWII channel?

Ice Road Truckers is considered a part of Living History.

Eh, yeah. Companies are not allowed to change over time and become something different. They must sick to their original premise until the end of time. No, that's a lousy way to conduct business and a sure fire way to get killed off.
I miss when it was the ww2 channel, at least back them it seemed like they tried to fact check shit, after that they went insane with aliens and now its all about crap people find in their back yard. At least discovery still has myth busters, deadliest catch is good but I miss my damn science shows.

And here I thought you meant TLC as in Fable: TLC and then have some odd screen shot, showing us something really weird and you would ask us why.

But this is worse. Oh, so worse. It's one of those moments where a face desk isn't enough. One of those moments where you just lost a little more faith in humanity. Actually, scratch that. You lose a lot in faith in humanity by watching that. I felt my brain cells dying.

Oh TLC... You have fallen from grace in such a way so as to be almost completely unsalvageable.

Anyone remember when TLC had Junkyard Wars? Those were the days...

It's too bad the pander to the lowest elements of society now.

anc[is]Still beats the History Channel 24 hour Pawn Stars network. At least TLC has a bit of variety.
Before that it used to be the Hitler Channel, considering every time I turned it on there was something about Nazis or WWII being shown. So in essence its not much different cuz there's more to History than Hitler and his goons.

It seems they have split up the real content into their own seperate channels. If you really want engaging TV like the good old days, you have to watch the Science Channel. If you want WWII history, that's what the Military Channel is for.

These are dark days indeed. I remember when Discovery was about science and technology, and TLC was comparable. Remember the old show, "Next Step?" Damn, I miss that show.

That was awful.
What language were they speaking: caveman? I did not understand a word that was said.
Sadly, people will probably watch it.

Woah man, your shock comes about a decade late, and more like 15 years.

The truly sad by is that history, science, and nat geo channels jhave all gone thqe Same direction. American colony, American pickers, pawn stars, ancient aliens-

You still have h2, and PBS.

Get used to it. I will probably switch to a streaming or purchase tv, probably run by apple, the year.

Damn it's hard to edit text on an apple

Indeed, but I saw something on there about the Battleship Yamato. Since I play Navyfield, it was very interesting for me.

Edit: Quoting fail, haha.

Oh Susan, you womanly woman. Everyone needs a guilty pleasure eh?

Yeah sorry though, I'd see those two go as gladly as...this. Top Chef is okay though but it'd be nice if those competitions would get actual depth and wouldn't have that horribly over-the-top staging so second nature to "reality" TV.

History Channel makes excuses for that kind of crap by saying "History! Made Every Day! And since truckers drive trucks over ice every day..... History, lol!" Yeah, its pretty ridiculous.

And stuff like what the op posted? What is this crap? Lowest common denominator much, huh? I'm gonna go cry in a corner now.

What the actual fuck. This is what passes for a documentary nowadays?! I'm going to curl up with my old video of The Trials of Life and cry.

I did make fun how of it was basically the 'hitler' channel in the past due to nonstop ww2 coverage. Yet, there were more shows devoted to history. The thing is that its premise changing from history to shows like ice road truckers, pawn stars, and other reality shows that it is pandering to lowest common denominator. Perhaps it sells more, but it is very telling of the educational level of a populace.

Channels like THE LEARNING CHANNEL, history, discovery should be kept more true to what their name meant. Angry Birds sells a ton, but there is still a marketplace for games like Shadow of the Colossus. Perhaps the Kardashians should be put on there too due to that is part of living history. I find it sad that last vestiges for scholarly programming are being replaced by stuff about watching guys drive trucks.

Mind you, that I quit watching said channels years ago before they made this slip to appeal to masses that don't want to strain their brain. In the channels' infancy, there were much more informative documentaries that covered things such as the Minoans and other lesser discussed cultures. Due to my field of study, I preferred reading first hand sources and articles printed in scholarly journals. So I even found their history specials about Egypt, Russia, and China to lack the depth. I just think it is sad how channels carry monikers of learning to basically be showing guys making motorcycles and swearing at one another.

I've quit watching TV years ago, save for a handful of shows like Breaking Bad and Walking Dead off of itunes, so I only care an iota of what is on those channels. It is just sad that people prefer watching shows mainly for the possibility of seeing some guy die in the arctic sea (deadliest catch) is more preferable to learning about history on a channel masquerading under the name History, Discovery, Learning.

Hey, Project Runway requires genuine skill, and doesn't overly concern itself with the shenanigans of the contestants...it's about the ability, not the people. Same with Top Chef, really. That's what I like about it.

Anyone remember when TV stations had at least an ounce of respect, pride or credibility and shows that didn't make you lose brain cells while watching them?

Really? I thought that was the one where the contestants spent about 25% making stuff and 75% bitching against each other in that all too typical, edited way to make it seem all dramatic. Must be some other show fashion-related show then.

Top Chef is pretty good yeah but that fake American drama, that's what I don't get. The cooking part is great but everything around it...why? The last few years it's been starting to infect our own competition shows as well.

What drama? They barely show the chefs talking to each other - it's all about the food.
