It's somewhat ironic that I was talking to someone a few days ago about the reason I haven't watched that channel in years is because it isn't educational anymore. It's all about cupcake shops and families that have no self-control and have how many kids now. I remember hearing a joke that if those kids were actually cats, the show wouldn't be called "19 kids, and counting" it would be an episode of "Hoarders".

TLC needs to be cancelled.

Hey, Project Runway requires genuine skill, and doesn't overly concern itself with the shenanigans of the contestants...it's about the ability, not the people. Same with Top Chef, really. That's what I like about it.
Really? I thought that was the one where the contestants spent about 25% making stuff and 75% bitching against each other in that all too typical, edited way to make it seem all dramatic. Must be some other show fashion-related show then.

Top Chef is pretty good yeah but that fake American drama, that's what I don't get. The cooking part is great but everything around it...why? The last few years it's been starting to infect our own competition shows as well.
What drama? They barely show the chefs talking to each other - it's all about the food.
Then I wonder which show I've been watching then. There's about four cooking competition shows on TV here. Dad likes to watch them and I thought that was the one called Top Chef. His favourite show sure had a lot of drama bullshit. The Gordon Ramsey one as well. Damn shame as it really detracts from the cooking. But if your show doesn't have that, well, I hope that they're broadcasting it on Dutch TV as well. Gods I love food.

I don't have television service of any kind. In reality, the reason is that they consistently overcharged me every month and that I was sick of constantly having to call them to get it fixed. The other reason is that my girlfriend was dying of brain atrophy from watching so much home and garden television.

Fact is, with the dawn of digital distribution, you can choose exactly what you want to watch, and damn all the filler garbage that people have gotten away with making. Digital distribution will be a market force that punishes low quality content and creates in general a market force to increase quality of content.

I've said "This is the worst thing I have every seen" so many times that it has lost all meaning. Just when I think TV can't get any worse it goes and proves me wrong.

Hat's off to TLC. They have managed to capitalize on what most of the internet gives away for free.

Here guys, Here is some TLC you can believe in.

Its ok, Let Edge and Jeff Hardy's insane bumps wash away the stupid (its depressing when Wrestling is the more highbrow of the two)

If this isn't a sign of the end times, I don't know what is.
As if having another goddamn show about some stupid family whose only trait is existing, now we have to listen to redneck mumble.

So who want's a zombie apocalypse now?

There are still plenty of good TV Shows out there, but a lot of these smaller networks are getting really desperate. They're losing a ton of money to the internet and streaming. Some other channels have had success with these "redneck" type shows so the channel wants to try to cash in as quickly as possible.

TLC seems to be making a lot of "safe" moves. Anyone else see that other show they were advertising? About that guy who buys his parent's bar? That looks so unbelievably generic I have no idea who would watch it.

Dear crazy man in the street yelling about the alien agenda?I am sorry I doubted you. I have seen with my own eyes the alien influence on this world through the television. It may be possible that our good tv shows are being blocked by the mothership and these shows sent in their place. I am willing to give your theories some leeway after watching that.

So glad I do not flip through channels I would have lost the few brain cells I have left by now.

The Learning Channel where you don't learn anything! In the past, it actually had documentaries about science and history. That was ages ago and part of reason why I quit TV upon seeing what is on history and tlc nowadays. The few history shows on the history channel are of the elementary grade level anyway. What does ice road trucking have to do with history?

Same vein of thought.... Discovery channel used to cover anthropology documentaries, archeology shows about lesser known cultures and now it is about guys who ride motorcycles....
So, history was better when it was the all WWII channel?

Ice Road Truckers is considered a part of Living History.

Eh, yeah. Companies are not allowed to change over time and become something different. They must sick to their original premise until the end of time. No, that's a lousy way to conduct business and a sure fire way to
get killed off.
well, if you open open a computer store and you start selling dildo's you're doing something wrong.

The sad thing is, this is happening to /everything./ The Sci Fi channel (sorry, SyFy), G4, Spike TV (which is ironic since it was created when the network it replaced decayed), heck, even Cartoon Network tried it for a while, but couldn't pull off the format shift because nobody wanted to watch cheap knockoffs of existing reality shows an a channel supposedly devoted to cartoons. We really need some Canadian style regulation to prevent network decay from going too far, because right now just about every channel is interchangeable. I only regularly watch two or three channels because they're the two or three that /aren't./

This reminded me of a few very small towns in my area that have two interesting stores: one is a combination bait shop/bar, the other is a combination bait shop/barber shop. Then the thought of a combination bait shop/sex toy store came to mind, along with the joke "it brings a whole new meaning to the phrase 'bait and tackle.'"

You may now kill me for the terrible pun.

Hehe, hilarious. I'd watch it.

For 2 minutes at which point I'd turn it off and visit a church to pray for a nuclear holocaust
No you fool! This show is clearly a result of extreme levels of radioactivity. Nuclear Holocausts will only make it stronger.

OP: I don't watch much TV any more. Seriously... the garbage that gets passed as "educational" is just offensive and the reality shit is the 6th circle of hell.

Some of the British Reality TV shows are okay, as are the comedy panel shows, but they aren't enough to make me pay out for TV channels.

I miss the age where National Geographic, Discovery and the History Channel actually delivered programs related to the channels title.

Thank God we have the BBC, that's all I can say. Admittedly it has a whole channel (BBC3) dedicated to insipid mindless crap, and it does make talent contest shows like everyone else, but it also gives us the Proms, Natural World, Wonders of the Universe, David Attenbourough, Andrew Marr etc.

I remember long ago watching TLC for the documentaries on the human animal and enjoying them greatly, but that was so very long ago.
