No this isn't one of those silly threads where I ask you about the Queen of England being your head of state or something, I just want some advice on getting to university in Canada.

You see, what with shy-high tuition fees at the moment, I went to an international universities fair last weekend and was tempted to go to the Memorial University of Newfoundland since they both offered the course I wanted and it was relatively cheap. The only thing is that the entry requirements for grades was very low compared to many English universities.

So I was wondering, is the Newfoundland University not considered very good with it's low entry requirements or do many universities have low requirements?

Apparently everything altogether in Canada is around £11,000, whereas in Britain, it's £9,000 for tuition fees alone for the best universities.

As far as I'm aware, anyone coming to university here from out of country pays a premium as well. My college at least charges a $4000.00CAD premium for international students. I've heard great things about Memorial University, and Newfoundland is gorgeous so it might be worth the extra cash.

-Foreign students pay extra: True, but it's still usually cheaper than university elsewhere.
-Memorial is a good university: True, they're regularly ranked high in both country and world standings
-Newfoundland is gorgeous: No, not really. If it's a clear day the place has a stark beauty, but during the rainy season (read: most of the year) it's awfully depressing, wet and cold. Though I suppose that coming from the UK that won't bother you as much.

Canada has some good programs for foreign students, and most universities don't have super-strict entrance requirements. I don't know what program you are going into, but it's rare that a good student is turned away.
