I have found myself getting extremely nostalgic lately, when it comes to EverQuest. I sank over 3 years into the game, and my necromancer reflected it. I was a part of one of the strongest guilds on our server (Prexus server) and quit playing back in 2002. I swore I was done with MMORPGs but I cannot help going back on youtube and looking at people doing raids and such from back in the day, and I do miss it.

Unfortunately, I think I gave my character to someone else at that time, and even though they havent played the character since 2005, I dont think there is any way I will ever be able to access my necro again, even if I wanted to just step back in that world for a month just to relive my past.

I figured I would ask any other former EQ players if you find yourself missing those days, and do you ever wish you could go back again, even if just for a little while?

Consider me surprised! I would have figured there were more former EverQuest players here than this...!

You can't really go back to EQ. Part of what made EQ so special was how frustratingly, incomprehensibly opaque and user hostile it was. No one could find their way around thanks to sense direction, no one knew what their goddam abilities were or when they were getting new ones, or what they would do when they got them. You were constantly stumbling around in the dark, wrestling the arcane interface, getting massacred by high level mobs patrolling through low level areas and losing all your XP and loot. It was a vicious, unknowable hinterland. Now, it would be like going back to the amusement park that seemed so huge when you were a kid, and seeing all the fences. It's just not the same game any more, even on classic servers. The mystery is gone, never to return.
