A Hermit's Cave
*sigh* I know I could've made a better analogy for a topic title, but whatever.

Having followed a particular thread, my thoughts went in a certain direction (as they unfortunately often do) and I remembered all the times my ex was upset/angry/sad etc, or rather, how I cheered her up (or our equivalent of 'cheered up').

Thus, question: how do you cheer your other half up when he/she's in a bad or low mood? Past relationships included.

Step 1 - Ask her what the matter is.
Step 1a - If she says "nothing", reply "bullshit". If she insists, let her simmer and try again the next day.
Step 2 - Allow her to rant/complain/cry for a bit. She'll usually be done within half an hour.
Step 3 - Apply hugs and reassurance as needed.
Step 4 - Profit!

Moral of the story is, they usually just want to vent.

This, more or less. Talking is great when one is sad. It helps you connect.
We did that a lot, talking that is, but I lose count of the number of times it resulted in crying. The more I reflect on it, the more I wish I would admit that it wasn't a healthy relationship...
