I head south tomorrow, and I was looking for suggestions as to what I ought do in Melbourne for about two weeks. Cultural sites, good cafes, etc. Any advice is welcome.

Well, I've heard the comedy scene in Melbourne is pretty good, so you might want to check that out. Have fun!

Pub Crawl.

I can answer any question with that, but still a good idea.

Edit: What Xitel said. I have also heard that there's a lot of good comedians down there.

Well, I'm an American, so I can't really help you.
But my cousin used to live there and he said the Indie music scene was pretty decent.

I'll put another note up that I can't do pubs/clubs. I'm not 18 yet.
That sucks. A lot of the comedy places count as clubs so you might have trouble with some of those. You still will be able to find a few good comedians in theaters or whatever, but your choices are limited.

Melbourne comedy fest doesn't start til april, does it? Anyway, are there still people left in victoria? Cos it seems like there's more of you up here than there are queenslanders.

There are a lot of good art galleries and museums down there, though if you're not into so-called modern "art", ya might wanna avoid some of the major galleries in the cbd area.

I'd suggest going to see something at the Arts Centre. It almost always has good stuff on.

Places to visit would be:

- Shrine of Remembrance and the Botanical Gardens
- Royal Exhibition Building and beside it, the museum
- Bourke St Mall for shopping
- MCG
- Federation Square and Flinders St Station

Eureka Tower is probably good as well but I haven't been.

Actually, if ya get a chance, head outside of a melbourne. There are a surprisingly large number of nice places to take day trips and such to. Is a pretty quick trip down to tassie too. Despite the jokes we mainlanders make about it, tas is a sweet place to visit.

I'm actually looking do to some tramping (hiking for non-Kiwis) in the surrounding areas. Should be fun.

You'd definitely want to head to tassie then. They've got some amazing places to go for hiking and such. Damn good fishing too.

This is an nice restaurant and a Hari Krishna one at that, for dinner I am a heavy meat eater so that might mean something.

I'm not sure what your idea of fun is but one thing me and two of my friends enjoying doing is walking or sitting at and around Flinders, Swanston and Federation Square and look for all at outlandish things people will wear and do.

Also search the back alleys in China-town and such, that is where I found some pretty cool LANs.

Do you have to make a thread about everything you do? This isn't even arousing to the senses at all, unless your going to Melbourne for an odd purpose?

I'm one of those outlandish people, so I'll be hitting some equally outlandish shops while I'm down there. Should be great. And thanks for the Chinatown advice, I'm looking for at least one net cafe I can conquer for the time. Bwahaha! Maybe I'll drop by the Escapist TF2 server..

Go to the zoo!
That's the only thing I can remember about Melbourne from when I went there.
They have Wombats.
