So I have about 5 minutes to type this before I have to pack for school, so here goes:
Recently I came into about 60 or 70 worths of pounds which I decided to spend on video games. I spent a lot of it on a 2nd hand edition of Rock Band 2 and had a lot of fun with that. Yesterday I noticed the STEAM sale of Mass Effect, so after the second one being my favourite game ever - I thought it was worth the, yes that's right - 3 POUNDS! (You are so pissed off now if you missed that, AMIRITE?). I also decided to pick up KOTOR, being a big fan of BioWare and also got the first Half Life, considering how I don't like the second all that much. (Bear in mind I bought the Half Life: Source version).
What can I say about ALL OF THESE GAMES?
They are better than 95% of games out today. I'm a 13 year old who grew up as a graphics whore, but the gameplay in these games is better than gameplay in the current day games.
Nostalgia is usually to blame when people reminisce about old games, but I shit you not, the developers actually took TIME to go over these games and perfect them!
KOTOR starts you off with a good amount of weaponry and simple missions, with simple environments. I chose to be evil and found that I could get in a fight with most people, killing them simply. The story and dialogue is brilliant and I love the atmosphere in the game. Compared to most modern Star Wars (and yes, I am comparing an RPG to a shooter) shooters, which don't have anything more than a good Physics system and some models.
Half Life is blended perfectly and allows you to use your weapon to help you with the environment. It's linear, but also allows you to explore without getting off track, and the enemies and weapons are just fun to use. Not to mention a wide variety of fun and challenging puzzles.
and finally Mass Effect, now this is more recent than the other two, and I still love the second one more, but this game is still far better than most of the recent garbage coming out today.
Thoughts on old gameplay compared to the new?
