Toe Socks

That's right. You heard me. Toe socks [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toe_socks]. I'm making a thread about toe socks.

Quite a while ago (I'd forgotten about the incident until recently), the aforementioned articles of hosiery arose in the course of conversation with a couple of my dear friends. I mentioned that I didn't own any and thought they were a bit odd, but otherwise fairly pleasant and harmless.

My friends were appalled. They thought they were possibly the most disturbing piece of legwear ever conceived. Seriously. They were so horrified my mildly positive view of toe socks, they couldn't seem to give me any real reason why they dislike them so much. Their view were so unanimous, without any apparent prior discussion, that I began to question my views on toe socks. I want to ask them more about it, but I fear that I'll just get more looks of disgust and abhorrence.

So, fellow Escapists, I ask you:

What's wrong with toe socks?

Nothing, I like them.

They feel really weird when you put them on though but then so much more comfortable than regular socks.

They look pretty dumb, but this is coming from a guy who has over 40 pairs of normal white socks sitting in his drawer and in his dirty laundry hamper.

I hate them with incredible gusto too, but, I also cannot explain why. They just... shouldn't be.

when i was twelve my parents got me toesocks as part of my stocking gifts and they looked like this

let's just say i wore them everyday even when the largest toe got a hole and i had to cut it off
so yeah

toe socks for the win!

I see nothing wrong with them. If people want to wear them, that's their business. It's too minor a thing to actually worry about.

they don't really bother me... I think they're silly looking, but who really cares what piece of cotton people choose to surround their feet with?

My girlfriend a while back wore them occasionally... I remember teasing her a bit, but it was good-natured and really light.

Can't say I'd ever wear them though. I don't like it when my normal socks get in between my toes... I can't imagine having something between my toes all day. it's like... a toe-wedgie.

They're supposed to help build muscle in your feet, improve balance and all sorts of things... and it would seem to me that toe-socks could help your feet make the adjustment to them without getting blisters.

They seem fine to me. Really I wouldn't mind which one I wore, though I never have.
What's the deal with people hating them?

Love toe socks. Aside from being adorable and giving me greater toe mobility, (I'm one of those people who uses my feet to open drawers, pick up, and hold things when my hands are full) I find that they wick moisture away better than usual and keep my toes from getting all sweaty and smelly. All of my friends who have trouble with toe fungus also abhor toe socks...so I'll keep my fresh, agile toes in toe socks, thanks.

They're so amazingly comfortable! I had slipper toe socks and used to wear them as such. Sadly, on the boarder of the floor between the living room and the kitchen, there is a little nail that likes to catch fabric...

Still, when I was in Japan, almost everyone's socks seemed to have big toes seperate from the rest of the foot. Stockings were the same as here, however. Encompassing the entire foot, and extremely uncomfortable.

They're very comfortable, I have a few massively warm pairs that I wear about like slippers, but I couldn't been seen in public with them.
