I share a flat with two girls, and I always put both seats down. That is, the bit you sit on when doing a Number Two (or to pee if you're female), AND the solid bit without a hole in the middle, that you can just use as a normal seat (or put your towel on when you have a shower :p). That's what I've always done, and most of my life I've spent in a house that was all-male save for my mother (I don't have any sisters or anything, just a dad and brother).

So yeah, I'm used to putting the seat down, and the way I do it looks nicer and means everyone has to put at least one seat up anyway when they use the toilet. So everyone is annoyed equally :D. I jest of course, neither of my flatmates have ever called me out on the toilet seat. I mean, why should they? It's just a really petty and unimportant thing to worry about, really...

I don't want to touch it, it's all icky and germy.
My house mate is incapable of hitting the bowl and gets his faeces all round the seat and doesn't bother cleaning it up. I'm a little bit screwed when that happens, I usually just go to the toilet at work instead.

I feel like this is more ov a TV problem than a real life problem. But I always put down both the seat and the lid. Why not?
There is no better way to keep the sewer crocodiles out of your bathroom.
