Jae Lee, a comic artist did a variant cover for DC's upcoming Rorschach maxiseries. This prompted writer Tom King to post a tweet condemning Lee as a member of the infamous Comicsgate.

The problem was that Lee wasn't actually a member of that movement. Lee's involvement with Comicsgate is limited entirely to a cover for Ethan Van Sciver's Cyberfrog comic (Lee had done covers fro Cyberfrog in the 90s as well). Lee had no idea what Comicsgate was (he's not on social media, doesn't live in the U.S. and isn't an English-as-first-language speaker) and reportedly had refused to do any more work with Van Sciver or anyone connected to comicsgate. King recently stated that he and Lee were "all good" despite this being far from the case.

To make matters worse, this came while Lee was dealing with the death of his dog Loki:

Two weeks ago, June and I took Loki to San Diego to see a specialist. He did not survive due to complications from the surgery. This past Friday was supposed to be a day of mourning. We were back in San Diego to pick up his ashes. We were going to take him to the beach and comfort each other by sharing our favorite stories about our little boy.

Instead, a part of the internet I avoid like the plague came barging in. I had companies I'm working for calling me, friends reaching out to me. I'm seeing hate pouring out of strangers' mouths, accusing me of things I have no knowledge of.

I'm seeing first hand how fast lies are spreading. Let me be clear, I'm not part of ANY group.

We never made it to the beach. We spent the entire six hour drive back home on an emotional roller coaster.

I'm writing this because I'm angry. These irresponsible tweets are not harmless. They do not just go away. They have real world consequences. They can take away your job. Your life. Your memories. June and I were robbed of a special day. So, no, we're not "all good."

This isn't the start of a conversation. This is the end. So please, don't drag me into a world I never wanted to be a part of, nor will I ever want to be a part of.

I want to honor Loki by going back to producing art made with love. For people who enjoy it for what it is. Something that hopefully brings joy into their lives.

Mommy and Daddy miss you so very much, Loki, our love.

It's also linked in the article, but just for clarity, here's Tom King's tweet retracting his statement that Jae Lee is a member of Comicsgate, which has the "We're all good" Jae Lee is referring to.

And, no, not at all the best possible outcome. Best would've been if he did that talk with Jae Lee before making serious accusations. Also, can't help but notice there's no actual apology in there, nor anywhere else, though one should be warranted. Tho that's perhaps not too surprising from someone who jumped the gun like this.

Way too quick to the trigger there, Ace.
That's pretty much Twitter for you. Fast and loose, fact check never.

Did this Tom King guy actually apologize for his reactionary tweet? Because the one you linked doesn't actually show any apology to me.

Hmm? I'm assuming you missed it, cuz I did point that out too in the post you quoted, but to answer the question: no, he hasn't actually apologized, not in that tweet, nor anywhere else public to my knowledge. It's what rubs me wrong about this. Make a mistake, fine, but owe up to it. This comes off flippant and careless.

Pretty much yeah, except these bozos can't used the defense that it's actually about ethics in games journalism.

"Marvel and DC can't just be trying to cash in socially progressive and odball ideas for comics because they're popular and have worked wonders for the small press for years, it has to be some kind of SJW conspiracy and what we really need is to go back to the good old days of Rob Liefeld" is basically the gist of it.

Even Rob Liefeld does not want to go back to the days when nearly everyone was trying to be him or copy his style.

If I remember Comicsgate correctly, an artist said some wrong, King had him removed but there was an issue over the character so the artist took the character elsewhere. King then told the new boss what the artist did and got them fired again.

But, as with the event that shall not be named, it turned anti-feminist real quick. I’m pretty sure the artist was railing against women when he first got in trouble. So he can get stuffed. But King tried to take someone down so he can get stuffed too. So can Comicsgte for twisting the situation into their own political advantage

Never cared for it to begin with. The comics I read during the 90s were the Archie brand Sonic The Hedgehog series.
This is very disappointing. I expected better of you. (Not the Sonic stuff, the weird Leidfeld body proportions stuff)

In truth, it was anti feminist (and pretty much everything else) to start with.

The artist who was canned was consistently signal boosting a harassment/drama youtuber who targeted women and minorities working in comics.

He did this even as the youtuber was targeting HIS WORK COLLEAGUES. That's what got him canned
