I'm kind of interested, but only really cos the gameplay looks like Uncharted and being a 360/pc gamer, never been able to play uncharted.

I've been interested in this one for a while now and that trailer is fuel for the fire. I like the idea of Lara being beaten down and absolutely challenged. This has a lot of chance to fail, but if it doesn't, we're in for a great game.

Well, the game could be fun, but a lot of big game companies seem unhealthily obsessed with torture porn. Is this a post 9/11 thing since torture's now government(s) approved? Or just that we've got the tech to show it with disgusting realism now? Things that are funny at 64 pixels are disturbing when you've got skin rendering with subsurface lighting.

Torture porn. Yes, that's exactly the vibe I'm getting from this: gratuitous suffering of the hot young female trying desperately to survive exageratedly gorey situations. It's not mature, it's not gritty or realistic, it's just unneccessary violence against the hot female protagonist, and that doesn't appeal to me at all.

It's a shame, I liked the previous Tomb Raider games, it always felt like Indiana Jones the game, and the snarky nature of Lara was part of that. I loved the mix of puzzles, platforming, and action, with some evil mummies thrown for good measure. This doesn't look like it'll be anything like that.

I don't really care much for the M-rated always-gotta-be-bloody theme of mainstream gaming that makes up today's market. Looks like they're just making the game uglier and the character uglier. I really don't get this dark/rusty theme, why is it so popular? i can't stand looking at all grays/browns on my monitor. You can barely see in a lot of these games, 80% of the screen is black. of course, we don't know exactly what this game is going to be so i'll just have to wait to find out.

i'm not entirely against dark themes it's just too common right now with big publisher games.

You know, I remember a time when we actually got excited about games. Oh those halcyon days when a new release was coming out and we would stop for a moment and say 'yes, I am looking forward to this.'

But silly me, this is the 2012 internet, and more specifically The Escapist, mouthpiece of a Yahtzee generation, and since Yahtzee hates Tomb Raider...

I'm excited about this. I will be buying it as soon as possible after release day, I will take it home and play it and I will enjoy it. When you spend all your time bitching yourself inside out and building up the game as terrible is it any wonder when you don't enjoy it very much? Maybe if you went in excited and prepared that the game might be good you'd actually have a good time for once.

This is everything that is wrong with E3 in a nutshell.
Because even if the games handle like trying to sweep up wet noodles, people will be so excited they will buy it up.

See, the problem I have is the "excited" part. You can chastise me all you want, but I haven't seen many games that go me excited. Last couple I can think of were Saints Row: the Third and Kingdoms of Hammer Lore: Raking. The former was a huge letdown, and no amount of excitement helped with that, and I don't think the hype made KoA better. If anything, the epic promises kind of let me down, even if it's the most I've played a game in AGES.

Yeah, when I was ten, I used to get excited for a lot of games. And I got a lot of shit games. It taught me to be more thrifty and more aware of what I was buying, neither of which I see as a bad thing. Then we got youtube videos and didn't have to rely solely on a few screens and taking the dev's word for it.

And I can't help but think maybe, just maybe it's not some faux-cynicism that causes people to not get excited. Maybe there's just more information, and people with a clue use it.

I don't know. I mean, watching the trailer, it doesn't look like a Tomb raider game at all. What's the point of keeping the name, and change everything else? Aside from the obvious money grab that an established brand allows, to a certain point.

I am not against "dark and edgy" as I am not in favor of it. It all comes down to execution, and the trailer seemed to give a little too strong "you must suffer because that's what we(the authors) have decided" kind of vibe. It's seriously one tragedy and dramatic situation after another in a less then 4 minutes long trailer. It looks more like an action movie than a game, and maybe that's what doesn't convince me that much (and yes, she does talk a little too much when she is alone, here).

On the positive side, I'd like a more naive/innocent/unexperienced Lara as a main character, but the fact that said naivety is killed within a few SECONDS in the trailer, seems to make it pointless. I mean, if you turn her into a desparate fighter for survival so soon, what purpose does it serve? The trailer is also long enough and portrays enough different situations to make me think that this might cover the entirety of the game (as in, a single, big location, not several travels around the globe or anything like that).

I usually enjoy Tomb raider games (really, I can name a few that were horrible, but I enjoyed most of them), though, so maybe once this come out I'll change my mind, who knows?

As a long time fan of the series, I'm.. not sure. I think it looks good and I'm eager to try it out, but it also doesn't really feel like Tomb Raider to me. My Tomb Raider is one of open areas and exploration. The quiet moments mixed with tension mixed with awe. This Tomb Raider, at least as presented in this trailer, looks like constant in your face action and endless set pieces. While I'd much rather be playing as Lara than Nathan Drake, I'm still not sure that I want that.
you will find your answer here regarding exploring:

i also asked in the forum why they call it just "tomb raider" without an additional title. you will find the answer in the link above i have posted.

i think they really go in to the right direction. finally she looks more realistic and yes, this is laras first adventure. the moment were she became the woman we know today.
i really like the mature approach in this game. almost being raped, bloody, full of dirt...
finally a move they should have done year ago.

regarding the winching. people are also complaining about it in the official forum. so we all hope they will make things clearer at the E3 or that she is like that at the very beginning of hte game and later on changes.

I quite like this. It's just my perception but she seems more real in both her personality and appearance than her incarnation in previous games (after the PS1 era). She just seemed like a badly designed fanfiction character. I most likely have missed nuances of her personality but that's what popped out at me.

If nothing else, the change to her appearance is welcome. Double Ds are not practical for adventuring.

I for one am really looking forward to this game. Interesting how it was announced at E3 last year and then we heard almost nothing until the delay announcement? Looks interesting enough though. I'd like to know what led them down the "reboot" path instead of just continuing the story from Underworld?

This will be a welcomed change of pace and break from my usual and soon to be games; ME3, BF3, GoW3, Halo 4, Borderlands 2 etc...

Interesting trailer.

But this isn't Tomb Raider, and this isn't Lara Croft. This is a survival-horror/Uncharted-esque copy wearing the Tomb Raider skin and name to try and sell more copies and revive a dead franchise.

This looks like a game with an actual story, and a comparatively emotionally-moving one at that.

The gameplay might be awesome as well, as long as her talking while stranded is in her head most of the time. Other than occasional expletives, she shouldn't be talking out loud when she's by herself when people want to kill her, derp.
