(and they didn't bother to include any digital sales of Tomb Raider either).
I wonder why that is.

You'd think publishers would get more money from digital sales since they don't have to distribute the games or manufacture booklets or anything. So why don't they like to include these sales? No doubt they account for at least 100's of thousands of sales?

When you see it video game market will crash again. Square Enix put to much hope in Tomb Raider 2013. They expected that this title alone would take their company out of that awfull loss they grossed through their fiscal year. This is how a market crash. Investor start to belive that video game is an unreliable market. There is still change that Tomb Raider will reach it's goal, through sales. However this would reduce Square Enix profit.

Yeah, that makes sense. I do kinda hope they sort their problems out. I like a lot of the stuff they publish.
I can't even tell you the last Squeeeeenix game that I bought, but I don't dislike them. In this case, it looks like they got a crap hand and are legitimately trying to fix it. And since they're not one of the publishers actively trying to dick over their consumers, I'm prone to be all "wait and see."

I'm not sure an FF7 remake would be as profitable as they'd like. The original "only" sold about 10mil over it's lifetime. A remake would be very costly and might not even hit the 10mil mark. It'd probably profit, but wouldn't save them.
It's also a gun they can't unfire, meaning it's probably not something they're going to do lightly. They've milked this one for fame for so long, a bad job could even hurt them.

Still, I think with 15 years of hype there's a chance that a new version could outdo the old one in sales. I don't think it's a huge chance, but I think it's quote possible.

This is how you know the industry is primed for a crash. the most successful sellers can't meet publisher expectations. It'll get worse before it gets better.
Context is important.

If Squeeeenix crashes, it'll have little or nothing to do with these titles.

I wish they had the talent they did from 1997...
I bet they do, too.

Okay, CLEARLY they didn't put all their hopes into one game. They've reported multiple shortcomings, and Tomb Raider isn't even the worst offender. They may have put too many eggs in too few baskets, but not one, and not just Tomb Raider.
