Good, this game was such absolute garbage that all evidence of its existence needs to be stricken from the world.

Definitely a game that you had to learn how to play - this fact was only compounded by the fact that there was no decent tutorial. Once you got past that however the game was pretty amazing - I have played very few games where you actually feel like a whirling melee badass of doom. Too Human let you do this without having to scrounge for items too much but rather left it too your own skill as a player.

This is definitely one of those games that I love to replay every now and again. Glad I still have my copy.

I liked the game despite it's horrendous flaws and was looking forward to playing more games in that Universe provided they fixed some of the glaring errors. There need to be more games based on Norse mythology :(

As much as it sucks for a developer to come crashing down like this I cannot help but think that it was somewhat well-deserved for the arrogance and hubris that this developed tossed around during the Too Human-era.

They could have taken the risk and released a sequel to one of the best and original psychological horror games in videogame history but rather chose the safe route to divert all resources to an unoriginal space-marineish action shooter with tacked RPG elements to it - as if the market wasn't saturated nearly enough of that already!

I remember when released the developers had their heads so far up their own asses that they were announcing that the Too Human franchise was gonna be a trilogy a fucking TRILOGY!!!
As if the game they just shat out was so golden that it guaranteed TWO sequels!!!

I guess the taller they are the harder they fall

They could have taken a risk by releasing a sequel to a critically acclaimed cult hit but instead they chose the safe route by releasing a brand new IP???

Sounds like you got that backwards there my friend

Destroying all unsold copies seems...extreme. Maybe it's just me though.

Aww man, this feels wrong. Yes Silicon Knights may have been a totally worthless, talentless, obtuse, boring game company, and even in the amazing fluke that was Eternal Darkness there were a lot of bad design decisions, but still this feels like a destruction of art. Bad art yes but still art.
when you sell your "art" commercially, you are bound to rules of commerce.

I think "destroy it all" is a bit harsh, but that's the end result of commerce.

To be fair to their hutzpah, they announced that before the game even dropped.

Too Human was on Xbox Marketplace? O_e
I'm actually proud that I was able to finish that game.
I can top that. I actually used it for part of my bachelor thesis.

I really liked the setting and story... too bad the gameplay had so many flaws.
Still, the game didn't deserve this fate. :\

How'd you manage that? What was your thesis about?

Yahtzee was also right about the characters, Loki was the only one even remotely interesting.
"Mythology. A comparison between literature and adaptations in the video game medium."
I used the Edda, the Divine Comedy and Journey to the West as literary subjects for my core comparative studies, with Too Human, Dante's Inferno and Enslaved as the respective gaming counterparts.

I love studying English. As long as you write your papers or theses in English and propose decent lines of inquiry for your research, you can write about whatever you want. I once wrote a linguistics paper on word formation processes in sci-fi literature, the main sources being two books on the subject matter and three W40k novels. :D

Well, shit. Anyone who has a copy, keep it hidden for a few years and wait for collectors. You might be able to make a fair bit of cash.

Also, any idea why they have to DESTROY all unsold copies?

Reading many of these replies makes me think that many people missed the beauty that was Too Human.

It was not a traditional RPG in that you gain levels and equipment and become stronger. It was a SKILL based RPG where you would gain skill and become more effective as you played. The higher level you became the more skill it took to not die.

And yes, it was quite possible to not die at all as ANY character even berzerker (although the undead level with all the ranged attackers did make that a bit hard with a zerk).

The game had the most amazing skill based combat of any RPG...and I would love to see other games take a page from it's book. Story etc in games like this (similar in many ways to Diablo 2) are not really that important as you play through them many times and the story only really matters the first time. Combat though is VERY important and each of the classes played fairly different Some were almost impossible to die with after you got fairly good with the combat system (Defender/bio-engineer), and others were super fast killers...that could really make use of your skills after you gained enough experience (Zerker,Champion).

Yes, the point, or challenge, was mostly in your mind (not dying) since death was only a minor annoyance (At least if you only die a few times), but the challenge to play through the game without dying at all.....was more of a challenge then most other RPGs I have ever played.

There were flaws...but nothing game breaking at all. There was a ton of replayability...and hundreds of hours of enjoyment at least (and thats without coming back to replay it again in the future like I have). I played it a TON more then Diablo 3 and more then the first Diablo as well (not nearly as much as D2 though). I played it more then Balders Gate DA 1 and 2 (combined) and I played it more then the Champion of Norath games (and I enjoyed all of those games btw).

I think it's the "Skill" part of the equation that turned everyone off...but for me, it was just what I was looking for. Something just so great about laying out a huge swatch of destruction and using your skill to avoid death while doing it in that game. I'm busy with 3 games right now already (With a big stockpile waiting) or I would play Too Human again right now. In fact, it's IN my xbox360 (which I have not turned on in over 6 months)...as I was going to play it again before getting distracted. I have Forza Horizon waiting for me to play on my Xbox360 when I do turn it on again though (if I ever do before the next Xbox comes out heh).

Anyway, it was a great game. It had a ton of potential as well with updates and the future parts of the trilogy. I so wish they had improved on the game instead of giving up on it.

Yea, this pisses me off. If I can find a copy, I will keep one in good shape. Even if the game wasn't very good, we shouldn't be out burning remnants of our gaming/art history.

Fuckin' A.
While there is torrents it will never disappear... unfortunately.

I guess it was too human to allow the world to see this game.

I guess the game wont be back if court went as far as removing all unsold copies.

capcha: time will tell.

Oh it certainly will, it certainly will.
