It's been in tons of threads, people not taking the time to read what they are actually commenting about ... etc. What is your opinion about people who do this? Hold nothing back. ^-^

If those people have the time to come on an internet forum, they have the time to read whatever post they come across. If you don't have the time to do that, don't spend your precious few minutes online.

Especially if you're going to take the time to post "tl;dr."

It's a different story if the OP is just poorly formatted/written, but if it's just long, and it's a topic that interest you and the length is the only thing that's stopping you from reading it, then you should just read it or leave right away.

tl;dr

OT: Well, they don't have to read the OP, but then they deserve the ridicule and whatnot when their post misses the entire point of the thread.

tl;dr

...Kidding.

In truth, I think people tend to find a sentence that jumps out at them, then respond to that sentence only - sometimes without reading the rest, sometimes without comprehending it. It's human nature, and not something that can be changed. If you want people to read your voluminous text, I suggest a liberal application of humor or brevity.

If the OP is dozens and dozens of lines, I won't read it if I'm not in the mood. And like anyone with common sense, I leave the thread immediately.

It's mostly dependent on formatting. We're trained to read sentences that are broken into paragraphs, it's how we break up seperate ideas. Without paragraphs, we don't have any sort of reference point within the text, and it immediately becomes hard to read.

I'm not a fan of people who post tl;dr. If you haven't taken the time to read the OP then you most likely have only a vague idea of what the thread is about and could be making a point that's already been addressed and is downright stupid in context. However, some people need to learn not to write in walls of text. If you want people to read a long OP then you need to split it up into clear sections and possibly thrown in a picture or two so that people don't wet themselves at the mere sight of your monstrous amount of words.

If you have to make a long post, that's fine, but make sure you don't needlessly waste our time. Just leave in the essential stuff if you have something very lengthy to say.

If something is tl;dr to me, that means I'm not interested in it - if I'm not interested in it, I have no opinion. I hate it when people comment on things that clearly hold no interest for them. If you aren't interested in a topic, it sort of invalidates the discussional value of your opinion; not to say your opinion is invalidated if you don't like it, because you can be both invested in and against a topic.

tl;dr version: if you aren't interested enough in a topic to read the whole thing, no one cares what you think about it.

If someone posts TL:DR, then take a moment to look back on your post and read it out loud. Don't skim! Read it in its entirety.

Is it too dense and thick to read? Then this person did you a favor. Edit your post back into readable form.

Is it well written and easily accessible? Then that person is just being a tool.

Since tl;dr is (most commonly) used by morons who can't take the time to actually read, i would have to say most people who tl;dr are morons;deserve to be brick-slapped.

People who don't read the whole thread:
Cunts.
Read or fuck off.

People who type TL:DR in addition....
UBER-Cunts!
Stop trying to get your fucking post count up.

For my, mega long thread:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/for...-Right-wing-Then-the-American-Left-Right-wing

I added 2 TL:DR's

The first being a thread in its own right. Sorta taking the piss.
The second being a very bare summary.

I find the fact they exist annoying, but they are useful for summaries if people get confused... Sorta just wish we could say "Summary:" as opposed to TL:DR...

There are just so many poorly written opening posts on the internet, with people wading around in paragraph after paragraph without getting to their point in any kind of effecient way.

I don't mind lengthy posts if there's enough content to back it up. I do mind lenghty posts if they are very bad at making their points.

Of course, when wanting to share experiences (I'm not interesting in reading that, but I assume many are), it's hard to really talk about "effeciency", so the threads where that is the main goal are excepted.
