Too much posting?

Now before i start talking about my opinion i want to ask you the following:
Is there such a thing as Too much posting?
In other words, can one post too much and lose the point of posting?

In my experience i usually come on The Escapist once or twice a day and look at the range of threads we have and if i want to add to them i will do so.
In other peoples experience it seems to me that they come on the Escapist for a long period of time and continually post until their fingers run read with blood.

This is just a screenshot of one of the things i am talking about, is this necessarily too much for one Escapist?

I just really wanted to get the opinions off of a group of you because i honestly think that if you joined in the middle of 2009 and you have over 2000 posts then you either have no life or have been supplying these forums with some useless posts.

I will say this though: I occasionally am one of those who does post useless threads, if you saw one of my posts recently all i did was say /signed. Although it took minimal effort to type that in i read through all the posts and found the two quotes that pretty much summed up my opinion too.

So please have a read of what i've said and tell me, using a sentence preferably, if i'm being silly or if i'm actually making some sense.

Some people post insane amounts of posts. I don't understand how they manage it.

Some people have alot to say, or are really opinionated. I know a communist, a fascist and a conservative all on these forums. They should make a sitcom.

I think most people here usually post something interesting or something of worth. There are however, often too many topics or polls started. There should probably be a limit on the amount of new topics you can start in a week. That would encourage people to discuss the topics at hand and really get conversations going.

This is one of two forums (fora?) I lurk around every day, usually multiple times a day, to pass the time when it's slow at work. I only post when I actually have something to say. Posting just for the sake of posting is stupid. It weighs down threads with bullshit that I have to dig through to find relevant posts.

EDIT: I have no problem with someone posting a lot. There are people on both the forums (fora?) I frequent that post in damn near every thread. As long as they have something meaningful or funny to add, I like that. People posting just to get their post count up can kiss my ass.

That screenshot I didn't think was over the top. At my peak activity I might post that fast. But no, I don't think as you have posts that have some substance you can post to much.

You're being silly. Just because you can't post a lot without running out of things to say doesn't mean other people can't. Case in point. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/MaxTheReaper]

Its just how much of an opinion some people have. Some of us are more opinionated and like to throw it in others faces. Some are pretentious assholes(but loveable I still love you Frank_Sinatra_ !), some of us are more outspoken, some comment whores, and some just like to talk for the hell of it. I have my days where I post an insane amount and my days where I am not even ON the escapist. I am also a mix between an outspoken opinionated person and a pretentious asshole. But really its all in how you look at it. Give me a topic that I can talk and argue on, I'll be on for HOURS.

It seems to me that you're far too concerned with how other folks spend their time. o_O

Based on your screen shot, were that a listing of my recent posts (and it would be pretty close, given the activity by all on those forums), I could easily write that off as "the time I spent on Escapist forums while flying from Point A to point B in WoW".

Some people have a lot to say, some people don't, those who do post frequently (even if it's just to say "I agree"). *shrug*

Personally, I don't look at post counts. For all I know the person with 45 posts since August is the same person who HAD an account with 5,000 posts since 2007, went away for a while, came back and forgot his/her login/email* and just made a new account.

[small]*As silly as that sounds, it's happened to me. -_-a[/small]

No, it just means topical idiots hit the limit on Monday and we can only go the rest of the week gravedigging or answering hundreds of "OMG MW2!" threads. It would likely be further aggravated by trolling.

Believe me, i've seen far too many people on the forums saying things that aren't even relevant to the topic.
Even in flame wars they shoot their guns way to quickly with incompetence.

Not at all, he joined a little after i joined and besides he's slowed down now.
I'm looking more at people like you, did you really need to ask me that?

No it wasn't you. When i look through a lot of peoples avatars though i see a whole host of combining times averaging from 20 posts an hour. I know that can be easily done but seriously is it providing anything to the community on the Escapist?

Have you taken into account forum gamers?
No but the people i have looked at so far haven't been on the RP and Forum games part often.
They're more into the Off-topic and gaming section more than anything else.
I will take into account though that Forum games can be a huge part of the posts people have.

Yeah, some people post crazy much. Not me though, I'm generally too lazy to type a reply, and most of the time whatever I want to say has already been said by someone else too. That's a bigger problem with the Escapist for me, not the fact that some people make 50 posts per day, but the fact that there are so many people posting. Usually I don't even get to an interesting thread before it already has three pages of replies.

Could you have sounded less offensive there? Yes.

Did he need to ask you that? I don't know, do you have a sense of humor?

I didn't think it was me at all. I have only a moderate narcissism on the intardnet.
Was just trying to cite an example. :D

"...providing anything to the community..." is really up to interpretation, tho. Some folks have to share their uninformed/childish opinions on EVERY POSSIBLE TOPIC EVER (/atrophy), others actually have insightful things to say. It's up to the individual user to discern quality between the two extremes. Or they can just bait the trolls if they're feeling particularly playful.

I'm willing to bet that a lot of the posters who have more than a thousand posts every couple of months see most of the actual CONTENT of threads as "tl;dr", so they just toss their comment in and hope to be quoted.

Any post that adds to a topic is a good post.
Any post that does not is a bad post.

Doesn't matter who's doing it or how many times a day.
