Found this interesting list of the top 10 guitar solos. What makes it unique is that it doesn't go by how hard the solos are to play, but rather how they fit the song. It also doesn't include the same old solos you see time after time on these sorts of lists. That being said, I hate Oasis and Radiohead. So I'd probably replace them with something by SRV.

Oooh...Top 10, that's a challenge.

My favourite is probably the solo duel at about 6 minutes into Machine Head's Clenching The Fists Of Dissent, but I can't really think of any others.

1. AC/DC - Let There Be Rock
2. Ozzy - Crazy Train
3. Fleetwood Mac - Albatross (if that counts)
4. Airbourne - Stand Up For Rock 'N' Roll
5. Iron Maiden - The Trooper
6. Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell
7. Metallica - Battery
8. Rage Against The Machine - Know Your Enemy
9. Steel Panther - Death To All But Metal
10. Dragonforce - Through The Fire And The Flames

There are most likely better solos out there but these are the only ones I can think of ATM.

My personal favorite is from a Ben Harper song, Diamonds on the Inside. A solo doesn't have to be long to be good, and I think this one is awesome! :D
It's at about 2:22, just make sure to turn your speakers way up.

Aside from that I'd have to give it to Stevie Ray Vaughn's Little Wing cover. The whole damn song is a solo, how can you possibly not love that?

I don't want to make a top 10 list but I loved the guitarwork in "All along the watchtower" (Jimi Hendrix) and "Princes of the universe" (Queen).
Anyway, your list should include Hendrix IMO.

EDIT: I can't believe anyone included Oasis or Radiohead in such a list, I can't stand either of them.
No Iron Maiden?
Motörhead?

I'm a guitar teacher, and none of my favourites are in anyone's list. Here's 10 I like, in no specific order.

Guns N Roses - Sweet Child Of Mine (from 2:52 - the perfect melodic rock solo)

Kreator - Betrayer (from 2:05)

Frank Zappa - Sinister Footwear, Second Movement (from 2:01)

Orianthi - According To You (from 2:11 - short but good)

Django Reinhardt - J'attendrai Swing (from 2:11 - and only two working fingers!)

Albert Lee - Country Boy (pretty much all of it - holy fuck)

Deicide - Homage For Satan (from 1:51)

Queen - Princes Of The Universe (from 2:37 - also short but good)

The Great Kat - Metal Messiah (most of it but especially from 1:42 - delightfully insane)

And last but not least:

No Neil Young...blasphemy :)

Clearly the list has been compiled by alternative rock fans so don't be upset that your favourite metal solo hasn't been included in the list. As for my top 10 favourite guitar solos of all time I'd reply that it changes every half hour but currently "here comes the sun" would be in it.

I have always loved the end "solo" in sidewinder by A7X (avenged sevenfold). Not classicly a solo, because it is a duet of guitars in a very spanish theme. But like the list, it isn't the "hardest" solo to pull off (although it would be quite difficult) but it fits the song so well that it turns a relatively average song into an amazing one.

6 minutes on for the solo.

I like the choice of Echoes by Floyd, usually people just say 'Comfortably Numb', and Stone Roses, though I'd have picked 'I am the Resurrection' instead.

The list fails for lack of SRV or Clapton. Bad list! Go to your room and watch Live at the El Mocambo followed by two consecutive playthroughs of Live Cream 2!

Exactly two of those solo's should have been on that list, Page and Hendrix. The rest, no way. That isn't to say that Gilmore and Richards aren't good players, there are just way to many more players that make them look like kids. The others on the list, what a joke.

The fact that SRV, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Kenny Wayne Sheppard don't make the list is questionable at best, insulting at worst. Further, not a mention of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai or Eric Johnson.

Not in order, and not definitive, these are simply the ones that occur to me.

Pantera - Cemetary Gates
Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms
Avenged Sevenfold - Beast & The Harlot
The Eagles - Hotel California
Bert Jansch - Angie
Pearl Jam - Alive
Blur - This Is A Low
Iron Maiden - The Evil That Men Do
Boston - More Than A Feeling
Mastodon - The Czar

...and yes, dammit, Dragonforce's Through The Fire & The Flames.
And of course I've immediately thought of a million more.
