So I get asked what my favorite game is somewhat often. Now for me, I can't really do that, since I've liked too many games to be able to definitively say one is my favorite over another. So instead I've compiled a list of my Top/Favorite 25 Games. And being the masochist that I am, UI have decided to post it on the Internet.
So here it is, in particular order (read: whatever order I remember them in).
1: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - N64
Its a timeless god damn classic, that Shadow Temple scared me pissless as a child and sucked up so much of life trying too 100% as a kid.
2: Goldeneye 64 - N64
Besides being a fun singleplayer game, it was my first real taste of multiplayer. Though it I did get my ass kicked at it quite a bit, I did learn a valuable lesson; don't be the guy who spams Proxy mines when you're outnumbered 4-to-1 in real life.
3: Halo: Combat Evolved - Xbox
Besides being the game that showed shooters could be truly successful on consoles, it have fun campaign and an awesome multiplayer.
4: Jade Empire - Xbox
Jade Empire was one of the most fun RPGs I've played. I loved the story, and it had the right mix of funny and serious. Also, beating that rifle dude's face in was priceless.
5: Guild Wars - PC
Being an MMO, its kind of hard to qualify this. But besides the fact that is one of the few MMOs to ever have a story you're actually a part of, the game's mechanics were always fun and the expansions were always a real treat and added something worthwhile.
6: Dead or Alive - Multiplatform
This is one of the few games I'll put up here as a series. I just love everything about the series; while the story may be nonsensical, the characters are great, the fighting is awesome and balanced and the game is beautiful. Also, it was probably the first game that taught me its ok to have those kinds of "feelings" for a video game character.
7: Starcraft II - PC
As much as I wanted to put the original Starcraft here, I have had more fun and time with SCII then I did with SC. It is just absolutely fun to play, even if my APM isn't 600,000.
8: Battlefield 2142 - PC
God, I love this game. Its probably my favorite Battlefield, though BF3 may take that title after some time. I spent an absolutely unhealthy amount of time on this game. It just........was good.
9: Mass Effect - Xbox 360
The original Mass Effect is probably one of the best RPGs I've played this generation. The story was fun and interesting as was the combat, and it was a nice relief in a sea of shooters in the modern generation.
10: Killzone 3 - PS3
Though I've played all the Killzone games, Killzone 3 is still the best. The campaign was fun an interesting and the MP was a blast. 'Tis a shame that my PS3's internet does work here at college.
11: Uncharted 2
The game is a ton of fun, and Nathan Drake is an awesome character.
12: Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - Xbox
Chaos Theory is easily the pinnacle of stealth games. Endlessly fun, replayable with an awesome story and easily one of the best Co-Ops ever made.
13: Halo 3 - Xbox 360
Even though I mentioned CE already, I have to mention H3. It was the perfect way to cap off the series; such a massive improvement while still staying true to the old games. Part of me is immensely sadden by Microsoft trying to rez the series again.
14: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Xbox 360
Even though its descendants are utter shit, that can't tarnish CoD4. CoD4 easily deserves in the Top 25. Engrossing, fun MP with an amazing story told in a way only games can tell a story. It was truly a great game.
15: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Xbox 360, PC
Like it or not, I spent more time on this game than likely any other. Its one of the few games I've ever bought twice.
16: Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter - Xbox 360
This iteration of GR was one of my favorites. Both the MP and SP were great, its one of the few games I've ever been on top of the leaderboards for.
17: Bayonetta - Xbox 360
Honestly, I'd be remiss to not include Bayonetta. Everything about the game is just.....awesome.
18: Team Fortress 2 - PC
This game has been my love/hate game for quite some time. Its alternately the most competitive thing I've enjoyed and the thing that makes me rage like no other. Also, hats.
19: Record of Agarest War - Xbox 360
Because only Japan can make a game where you're being both fan-serviced and being challenged with important moral/philosophical ideas at the same time.
20: Xenosaga - PS2
This series was so fun, and I loved the amount of time put into the cutscenes and characters. Also, the mechs. Mechs in combat. Awesome fun.
21: Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeonic Front - PS2
Not only was it a fun game in its own right, but it is probably the best Gundam game to date. And it lets you play as the "bad guys" something that rarely happens.
22: Metroid Prime - Gamecube, Wii
The Metroid Prime games were an awesome way to re-imagine the serious and were awesome fun across all three games. And giving Samus more screen time is (almost) always a good thing.
23: Pokemon - Multiplatform
The entire damn series is great. Trying to pick out of the group is impossible.
24: Portal - PC
Funny, brain-bending and a definitely a game all should try at least once.
25: Super Mario - Everything ever
Shut up. You know why.
So there. I believe in the great tradition of the internet, the time calls for this:
Come at me bro.
