Battlefield(Both bad companies and 3) Gears of War(All 3 in their own rights) DayZ and with an honourable mentions to minecraft and the elder scrolls series this gen
Those are the games I've poured most of my time into and that have grabbed my attention

And I say the DayZ mod because it has blown me away with how fun and thrilling it is to play that.

SO what are your top 3 game of this gen?

Mines are

Probably best game i have ever played. that dark and gritty atmosphere. gunplay is best ever and setting is best. Zone is incredible. Entire game is Masterpiece

Best prequel to one of the best game ever. nuff said

Maximus AWESOMENESS!!!
Thats a fantastic selection, most people assume Crysis was just a tec demo but they obviously never played it because that was fun s**t. The aliens are the most creative I have yet seen and jabbing a soldier so hard he cartwheels airborne through a corrugated iron wall is hilarious.

Also both the other games are fantastic, probably most of my favorite modern shooters.

Why are people so bad at this?

PS2 games don't count. Games released for PC well within the life cycle of previous generation consoles don't count.

Dark Souls
Bioshock
Red Dead Redemption

Wait...

1) The Mass Effect Series. All brilliant games and truly groundbreaking in terms of narrative and series continuity. Just an amazing series and my favorite games of all time.

2) The Witcher 2. It may not be as memorable to most of you here, but I honestly think it's one of the best games ever made. Tight controls, intuitive combat and a narrative style which most other RPGs can learn from. And the graphics were awesome.

3) Dark Souls. Gaming purity. Hard, but fair. If you took the time to master it you were rewarded with one of the most engaging experiences in gaming.

Honorable Mentions: TESV: Skyrim, Batman Arkham Asylum/City, COD4 and Fallout 3.

Skyrim. The vanilla game isn't all that great. With mods: it's perfect.
What the hell mods are you using? I haven't found any that change the game so drastically that I could see them changing someones opinion from "meh" to "FUCK YES!"
Too many mods to list, honestly. The main problem with the game is one of ambiance and another of interface. The core content is fantastic. Call me shallow, but how my game looks and is presented is almost as important as everything else. My modding preferences aim to fix those issues. The Realistic Lighting mod is mandatory for dark nights and dungeons and lighting that is otherwise dramatic and believable. The mods that fix the menu system and quick selection feature are a must. Between those two the game is 80% fixed. I have a mod that adds magic spells, many of them not damage dealing but tactical. Cheaters Tower is a very useful tool for testing a character build without committing a ton of time to it. The rest of my mods are subtle visual changes.

Call of Duty 4 deserves a space.

Oblivion still has a special place in my heart.

Mass Effect 3 could have had a place here, but -not to beat a dead horse- managed to bum up the ending so much that it brought down the rest of the game with it. Mass Effect 3's ending could have been a Batman villain.

So I'm gonna put Assassin's Creed 2 here. All around solid game.

Since I havn''t played all the games released this gen I really can't say for sure. There is a few games I do't have yet that could possibly be here (*cough* Skyrim) and I won't count PC exclusives as I'm not much of a PC gamer (sorry STALKER, as much as I love you)

And this list could easily change the more I think about it so I'll just knock it out without thinking too much about it.

Fallout 3
inFamous 2 (or perhaps the first infamous, it had a better story and characters and more varied factions, but less interesting city less powers, sort of a toss up between the 2)
Red Dead Redemption

Forgot this until I saw quoted post. How could I forget one of the greatest gaming experiences of this generation. I also thought MGS: Peace Walker was just as fun but quite different and not easy to compare.

I know that's technically 6 games altogether but I'll stick with my original 3 just to avoid thinking about it too hard.

Dragon Age: Origins is probably my favourite game of all time. Too bad I wasn't playing back in the days of Baldurs Gate.
Mass Effect Trilogy
and... Call of Duty 4.
I would say WoW, but not sure if Vanilla/TBC counts as this gen.

Here's my three. And Persona 4's here because it's fantastic and nobody seems to have a problem counting it as a current generation game.
