5. Portal 2
4. Dungeons of Dredmor
3. Deus Ex: Human Revolution
2. Bastion
1. Skyrim

My rationale:
Portal 2 was good, but I've gotten a lot more out of the other listed games. I would've rated Dredmore higher because all its dungeons are random and its humor is great, but the story and execution of the top three titles were far more intriguing to me (even though I go back and play Dredmor about once a week.) Deus Ex had fantastic gameplay but it felt limited in terms of the truly useful biomod options, meaning just about everyone I've talked to has had the exact same character build as me. Bastion was great, but Skyrim...I'm going to be playing that for years to come.

These top 5 lists are always a bit weird, since some games get a bit of breathing room, some get too much, and some not enough. You sort of need to make predictions for some games as to whether or not they'll still be viewed as great given time, and be forgiving for those that have been overshadowed...

And as far as worst 5 is concerned, there's always a catch to that. It's never a genuine "worst five," because no one plays the worst five games in a year, or for that matter, the worst 50. All of the movie-themed kids-aimed gameplay-lacking innovation-absent plot-weary shovelware that every console gets (other than the PC for the most part). Those are the worst.

I find that "worst 5" by definition is actually "top 5 disappointments," since even if you expected a high-profile game to be bad, it's already high-profile. I.e., low-profile games can make a top five list, but only high-profile games can make a bottom-five list.

I have hardly had time to play anything at all this year. Ever. That said, I've played only a few hours of Zelda SS during Thanksgiving, and I'm going to assume that I'll love the whole thing, since reviews claim the beginning is the weakest part and I loved it too.

ALSO, the only people who are really qualified to propose such lists are those who regularly game on all consoles. I feel like people posting these lists should also post which systems they actually own.

Top 5 games this year:
1.The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PC)
2.Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PC)
3.Portal 2 (PC)
4.Total War: Shogun 2 (PC)
5.Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception (PS3)

I have them in order of how must I have played them and enjoyed them. They are all very good games, but Skyrim takes home the gold since I have been playing it for 100 hours and is still not done with it.

Worst 5 Games this year:
1. Duke Nukem Forever (PC)(Need I really say why?)
2. Duke Nukem Forever (PC)
3. Duke Nukem Forever (PC)
4. Crysis 2 (PC)(Too short and lacked the same feeling of freedom that I had in Crysis 1)
5. Dragon Age 2 (PC) (They took a gameseries with a great potential and changed it completly so it looks more like Mass Effect in a fantasy world. Which was not a good thing.)

5. Dragon Age II
I'm... not the only one... :'D
It's my #6, so I still liked it quite a bit.

My list, as posted on another thread from a day or two ago:

10) LA Noire
9) Uncharted 3
8) Alice: Madness Returns
7) Catherine
6) Dragon Age 2

5) Skyrim
4) Arkham City
3) Deus Ex: Human Revolution
2) Portal 2
1) Skyward Sword

I didn't play any games that I thought were bad, so I eschew the worst list and double the best one.

Labeled from THIS IS AMAZING! to just plain awesome (Greatest to least greatest)

1. Bastion - Of all games it just was one i didnt expect id love it so much so it left a much greater impact

2. inFamous 2 - I loved inFamous and inFamous 2 only went up from there in just about every aspect i enjoyed from the first one

3. Skyrim - While i really do love it, i think the fact that every person and their grandma loves it in such high regard soured the experience for me. Still a damn fine game though.

4. Uncharted 3 - Uncharted 2 was the first game i got for my PS3 and Uncharted 1 was the game that got me interested in wanting a PS3. Uncharted 3 does not dissapoint but you can kinda tell how the story is sort of a framework for the set pieces. But still an amazing game.

5. Gears of War 3 - Ive always been a big fan of Gears and bought the limited edition of 3. I really applauded the multiplayer the most of this game, while the last ones i didnt care too much for it. But it also had a campaign that i really enjoyed too.

Havent had a chance to play some other games yet like batman but hoping to soon.

2. Duke Nukem: FOREVER (Bad game but at least I got Serious Sam BFE)
1. DRAGON AGE 2

So disappointed as a Dragon Age:Origins fan.
I go to say even by Biowares standards the voice acting was pretty horrible along with crap combat on the PC and shit graphics its a major disappointment and kick in the teeth to someone who loved the original.
I can see why people liked it but I think its a spit in the face to DA:eek:rigns fans.

2011 is definitely a year where the gaming options surpassed other entertainment like the pretty meek selection of films this year.

Top Five of 2011:

5. Battlefield 3
4. Deus Ex: Human Revolution
3. Portal 2
2. The Witcher 2
1. Batman: Arkham City

These are the best of what I've played. Most of the other games mentioned (like Skyrim etc) I have yet to play yet. Might have a much different list after I get around to them. Still, it's a hard list to pin down. A lot of phenomenal games out this year. Which was pretty impressive after last years epic lineup as well.

Dont really have a Top 5 Worst, though. Money has been tight so I really only played, bought or went after games that I knew I would enjoy in some way, shape or form. And I succeeded, with the exception of

Dead Island.

Felt like it could have used more time in development.

Top 10 Game of 2011

5. Dragon Age 2 - Yes, I enjoyed this game, but after the first one, I expected to LOVE IT. Still, it's been a rather slow year in gaming for me, so it makes the list due to a lack of nominees by me I suppose.

4. Terraria - This was a great game. Sure, it got a bit dull after 80 or so hours of digging, but damn was that one hell of a week!

3. Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 - I have spent more time, and had more fun with this game than any other on the list. In theory, that should make it the top spot, but the fact that it's really just a limitted Magic online, that it has some major bugs, and that there are some serious rules mistakes in it, sort of keep it from that honor.

2. Portal 2 - Great puzzle game, well in the spirit of the first.

1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - What can I say about this game? Great role-playing, great combat, great sense of adventure, and great immersion. My only gripes are that the main storyline is a bit dull, and your characer's race never comes into play at certain times when it seems like it should (if Bioware made this game, you can be certain someone would say something about it). Still, for a total product, this was my top game of the year.

I should add that thus far I have yet to play much of Arkham City, or any of Skyward Sword, so I omitted those two from the running. I also really enjoyed Mortal Kombat a lot more than I thought I would... and conversely, I sadly enjoying Little Big Planet 2 a lot less than I expected to.

Hehe. I was going to do something similar, but you were much more graceful in the execution.

I can see why people liked it but I think its a spit in the face to DA:eek:rigns fans.
I loved the original but its animations were so slow, awkward, and easily interrupted that the combat never even happened. Besides it was far to easy and terribly balanced.
Dragon Age 2 made the combat faster, more tactical, more challenging, more accurate, better balanced, and just generally what the first should have had in every way.
Dragon Age 2 has a lot of flaws but the combat on the PC was not one of them.
(Assuming you played Nightmare I guess. Otherwise of course it was bad they took all of the game mechanics out so casuals could roll over it.)

I don't have any reason to care that you didn't enjoy it, That's all subjective and up to your preferences.
The real thing I'm commenting on is that "Fans of the Original" happened to occasionally like DA:2, in fact I'm fairly sure those are the only people that gave DA:2 a chance. So I find blanket statements like yours above a bit offensive. Sounds like you're disregarding a lot of us as "not real fans" because we liked the sequel. =(

As an aside, if you liked the first at all why would you care about graphics being sub par? DA2 had like 50 times the graphical power in it, that was one of its flaws.
They should have given it worse graphics so that they had the resources to actually make the rest of the game. When they went ahead fixing DA1's flaws they overkilled it and spent all of their time on Graphics and Combat. Combat is essential but graphics are a non-issue imo.
Complain about how Dragon Age 2 was a disappointment and I'll be right with you but complain about the parts it actually did poorly, like story, pacing, focus, and world building.

Actually the Tag team was hired by Valve to work on Portal 2. I can't help but despise the fact that you put Portal 2 on your worst 5 list.
Sorry, I was unaware. I still don't like Portal 2 though, Portal games really bore me and I can't help but despise the fact that Portal 2 is praised when there is barely any change while other games are shot down for having little change. I have the same problem with Assassin's Creed too, but don't hate me for my opinion.

Why didn't you like BF3?
It's hard to explain. It felt really unpolished to me (Xbox 360) and felt more like Bad Company 3. The multiplayer made me pretty fustrated with god-awful spawning, boring maps, and annoying snipers. Also, I didn't like the singleplayer and it doesn't really fit the game, and the co-op missions were way too long to enjoy.

Top 5

5 Ghost Trick (One of the best stories i've ever sat through)
4 Portal 2 (whilst i love portal i just feel as if it could have had a little more, and god dammit valve give us more dlc)
3. Battlefield 3 (I've had a lot of fun playing it but it has an uncanny ability to make me rage quit)
2. Batman: Arkham City (any other year this would be game of the year for me, so much fun with awesome music and an awesome story.)
1. Skyrim (just cause)

Worst 5

5. Duke Nuke em Forever (why did they get rid of one of our few video game in jokes for this piece of tat)
4. Halo combat anniversary (don;t get me wrong i like halo, something about the graphics just winds my eyes up the wrong way.)
3. Mortal Kombat (Bored)
2. U MvC3 (love MvC3 i just can;t see why they didn;t release it as dlc, it would have been so much easier
1. COD:MW3 (why oh why oh why is this still allowed to stagnate the videogame market with it's grayish shooterness)

they're more disappointments than the worst im sure that there were far more dire games released this year
