Ok I was digging through my old game systems and found some of my favorite games. My favorite one is probably Chrono Trigger. Since I was being nostalgic, I was wondering what everyone elses top five classic games are? And im feeling evil so you can only post five no more no less. Mwahahahahaha... ahem. Mine are as follows- 1. Chrono Trigger(SNES) 2. Legend of Zelda:Link to the Past(SNES) 3. Perfect Dark(N64) 4. Sonic and Knuckles(GENESIS) 5. Pokemon Blue(GB Color).
Goldeneye64 (3 player grenade lauchers in the temple with instakills. Best thing ever.)
Soul Calibur 2 (No shitty guest characters)
Star Fox
MarioKart64
Super Mario World
Super Mario 64 (N64)
Donkey Kong 64 (N64)
Banjo Kazooie (N64)
Lylat Wars (Which is Star Fox with a changed name for us Australians) (N64)
Sonic CD (PC)
The Nintendo 64 and a shitty computer were the only things in my house when i first started gaming at around 5-6 years old.
F-Zero (SNES)
Zelda: Link to the past (SNES)
Zelda: Ocarina of time (N64)
Mario 64 (N64)
Goldeneye (N64)
I remember playing F-Zero with a friend, going back and forth trying to get the fastest lap time, in the end it was coming down to tenths of a second - one second covered the top five on MuteCity1
Mario64 I actually played until completion (120 Stars, Yoshii on the roof and all) and I think is the only game I've done that with.
I don't really have favorites but top games off the top of my head
Phantasy Star IV- Better than Final Fantasy of the era, it conveyed story far better in cutscenes. So when someone joined the party? You met them, you know them and when well...
When a hero in the game died? It was actually moving because you saw in a comicbook like cutscene the character say their last words and die, not just flicker away as a sprite or turn 90 degrees. Then the aftermath of the heroes morning the loss of a friend, tears down their cheeks. This game really let you get connected to the characters in ways that simple sprite games just didn't do.
Flashback The Quest for Identity- It's literally the Uncharted of the 16 bit era crazy platforming and shooting. It has 'movies' on the Genesis/SNES, no joke, it's quoted as "The CD game on a cartridge".
Super Metroid- Smooth platforming, great fitting music, a huge world to explore with upgrades, there wasn't anything like it at the time.
Megaman X- Megaman was great, Megaman X was that and more, it's hard to argue with tight platforming+shooting+great music.
Final Fantasy Tactics- There's no turnbased rpg with the amount of depth of battle customization and character leveling and development like this game, that's not to say that it's flat out better but it's very much the most expansive. Crazy story, amazing music, smooth visuals it's just amazing.
Bubble Bobble (C64) - loved this game so much
Super Mario All Stars (SNES) - not sure if this is cheating or not
Street Fighter II Turbo (SNES)
Punch Out (NES)
Gunstar Heroes (Megadrive/Genesis)
I kept it before PSX/N64 era to make it easier for me.
Very hard to separate MY faves and what most folks would consider classics, but here are my initial Top 5: (I kept it SNES and newer cos I doubt most folks would take REAL classics seriously/)
Final Fantasy 6
Earthbound
Donkey Kong Country
Goldeneye
Metal Gear Solid
Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday on the Sega Mega Drive
Mario Kart on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Mario Kart 64 on the Nintendo 64
That's about it for me. My friends and I played a lot of the Kart games so I enjoyed them. I did hijack my brother's Mega Drive when he got Countdown to Doomsday for quite a while, it was probably the closest I have come to owning a console, then I found out I could get it on my Commodore 64.
Goldeneye and Perfect Dark (n64) -two halves of what I call the perfect console fps experience...
Driver (ps1)
Mercenaries (xbox)
Super Mario Kart (SNES)
and Diddy Kong Racing (n64)
