I'm probably going to go with FF6/CT...and is the PS1 'classic' now?

Some might not have endured their quality for a long period of time compared to the old games... But they have enough to make them classics, plus they will endure for many, many years to come.
The thread's title is ambiguous, but I read it as "games for classic consoles", not "classic games for any console". A classic console would be, I suppose, anything up to the 5th gen (Sat, N64 PS1).

Soul Calibur 2 (No shitty guest characters)
Yeah. Once you ignore Link, Spawn, and some other Tekken fighter.

As for me:
Chrono Trigger
Earthbound
Sonic 3 and Knuckles
Ristar
Terranigma
Oh shit. I mean Soul Calibur original then. I get confused because of Soul Edge

When you say "classic", how many generations back are we looking at?

Ah, fuggit. This'll be easy either way...

5) Sonic the Hedgehog
4) Sonic the Hedgehog 2
3) Vectorman 2
2) Vectorman
1) Sonic 3 & Knuckles

Well according to you, 4 generations ago. Or just genesis...

Anyways i have to agree with like the third post

Phantasy Star IV- Better than Final Fantasy of the era, it conveyed story far better in cutscenes. So when someone joined the party? You met them, you know them and when well...
When a hero in the game died? It was actually moving because you saw in a comicbook like cutscene the character say their last words and die, not just flicker away as a sprite or turn 90 degrees. Then the aftermath of the heroes morning the loss of a friend, tears down their cheeks. This game really let you get connected to the characters in ways that simple sprite games just didn't do.
This game was amazing and i still sometimes go back and play it. (The genesis collection on psp/ps2/ps3 has it... don't judge me)

I didn't really play many games on genesis era/previous. Mainly because i was like 3 when the ps1 came out (1994... according to wikipedia) But i'll try to keep as many as i can from that generation.

Shining Force 2-Tactical game that i still consider to be one of the best turn based games. Don't think it's as RNG friendly as Fire Emblem.

X-men(genesis)- That was a good game right...? Right?

Beyond Oasis- This RPG while somewhat lacking in story (if i can recall) had fun and addicting gameplay.

And last but not least
Gunstar Heroes! Oh man mindless countless hours have been drained into this game that i didn't even own. Me and my brother had to save up our money to rent it from blockbuster. And 5 bucks to 2 kids who don't get allowance or lunch money is damn hard. Still consider that to one of the better shooters i've played as well. Go out and play it on the wii. Not like yours is getting used atm. only 8 dollars

Though I did play the SNES and owned a Sega Megadrive I only really remember games from the N64/PS onwards so:
FFVII
Classic, hands down one of the best RPG's of all time and universally recognised as such. Personally my first FF and it got me into the series and RPG's as a whole when I was a kid.

Ocarina of Time
Well duh, what a game. I must have played it through a dozen times when I was young and after recently unearthing my old N64 I've done it a couple more times. Endlessly fun to revisit and just a neat game through and through.

Pokemon Stadium
Whut? I'm cheating basically ;) This is to include Red/Blue and the awesome fun of multiplayer. Both games were staples of my childhood and this made it oh so much more fun. Even enjoyed those minigames.

Super Smash Bros.
Maybe not an obvious choice, I don't know. Regardless I loved this game, me and my friends had epic deathmatches ALL the time and my god what fun times they were. Even solo it had massive potential and I love that everyone had their own epic moments in the game, completely spontaneous and undoubtedly awesome.

Goldeneye/Mario Kart64 (I cheat!)
Two amazing multiplayer games which just...yeah they are so well known and loved I don't even need to describe them.
Bond might be more fun in single player but Mario has definitely aged a lot better. Either way, both are incredibly fun, even now.

"Well according to you"? Does my list bother you? You asked what were my top 5 classic games, and there they are.

Is something wrong with that?

I hear you, Shining Force 2 was fantastic, it was an adventure that's for sure. I have the cart :U EXCITEMENT.

Beyond Oasis, I'm shocked someone else has played that game. I guess because of the Genesis Collection, I have a list of games that I'm positive most people don't know of. And yes, it is awesome. Also have the cart :U! Did you know there is a prequel? Legend of Oasis on the saturn. I haven't played it but have it, imagine that.

Gunstar Heroes, god damn that game is awesome, but hard. Man I want that game in cart form.

You missed out on some crazy things (because of when you were born) I mean I used to just download these games via Sega Channel, a bloody cartridge you plug into your Genesis and you literally downloaded games over the internet, in like 1996 or something. Run by Sega and all that, it was the xbox live of the 90's!
