5. Animal Crackers: It's the Marx Brothers doing what they do best. Swordfish!

4. Amelie: I can't resist the mood.

3. X-Men 2: The perfect example of "First sequel's the best flick in the series."

2. Duck Soup: Greatest Marx Brothers movie ever.

1. Star Wars: It's Star Wars, at the point I consider the series' finest.

I may have forgotten some since these were just the first movies that came to my mind.
Keep in mind that the order of these changes daily (except for number 1):

1.) Return of the King -Fellowship is VERY close to being my favourite of the trilogy, but Return of the King wins out because of its emotional finales. I'm only going to include one movie from the series because otherwise they would probably all be on here.

2.) The Shawshank Redemption -Beautiful and heartwarming.

3.) The Dark Knight -Favourite super hero movie.

4.) The Shining -This movie absolutely terrified me the first time I saw it. The sense of dread that this movie builds is unequaled.

5.) There Will Be Blood -I haven't actually watched this movie very many times. It's emotionally draining -almost like it's taking a piece of you every time you watch it. However, the acting is the best I've ever seen and the story is fascinating.

Honourable Mentions:
Gladiator
Goldfinger
Hot Fuzz
Guardians of the Galaxy
The Usual Suspects
Pulp Fiction
2001: A Space Odyssey

GundamSentinel

The order switches around on occasion, but over the years these have always been at the top.

1. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
2. Kingdom of Heaven
3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
4. 2001: A Space Odyssey
5. Hero

1. Cabin in the Woods - A brilliant movie by the brilliant Joss Whedon.
2. Wreck-it Ralph - I knew a Disney or Pixar movie had to be on this list, and this is the one I chose.
3. The Muppets Movie - Really what I can I say? Jim Henson's puppets at their finest right here.
4. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - Honestly, the comics and the game were better than this, but the movie is what introduced me to the series, so it'll always hold a place in my heart.
5. REPO! the Genetic Opera. - A film so great that Universal thought "Hey, If I remake this, but scrape out the singing, unique setting and wonderful cast of characters, It'll be soooo much better" It wasn't. It was stupid Universal.

Some runners-ups for ya. Didn't quite make it though. Too bad.

Disney's Aladdin
Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog
Those Persona 3 animated movies
Guardians of the galaxy

Top Hat: Fred Astaire... I need say no more!

1) 28 Days Later
2) There Will Be Blood
3) Alien

After those three it gets difficult because there's a whole load of others that are vying for two spots. And even the three that I've listed changes places depending on how I feel - about the only constant is that 28 Days generally stays on top.

Other Contenders:

The Terminator
In Bruges
Seven Psychopaths
Aliens
The Empire Strikes Back
Moon
2001
Four Lions

I'm probably missing a few here as well.

This is only going off the top of my head; I'm sure there are some that I love but aren't really at the forefront of my mind.

5. Tangled
4. Iron Man 3
3. Drunken Master 2
2. Kung Fu Panda 2
1. The Lord of the Rings (it's all one epic-length movie, really)

Lord of the Rings, I maintain, is the best movie trilogy ever made. Kung Fu Panda 2 is the best sequel ever. Drunken Master 2 had the best fight choreography ever. Iron Man 3... is just a fun movie that threw a wrench at people's expectations in a spectacular way while still being a great movie. Tangled is my favorite Disney movie, though I admit Frozen's songs were a little better.

EDIT: I guess I would say Iron Man 3 has the best twist ever, that wasn't already spoiled for me.

I will not rank them. They are all "top".

"Snatch"
"4 Rooms"
"Kill Bill Saga" (I treat them as one film, because that's how it was originally intended to be)
"Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels"
And I'm gonna throw in "Rare Exports", because 'tis the season, and I think it is EASILY the best, if highly underrated, Christmas/New Year movie ever made and everyone should watch it this holiday season, together.

So hard to choose...this is more like a list of the first five films to come into my head that I really like, although I tried to give a mix of genres.

Spirited Away - First anime film watched and Favourite
Terminator 2 - Favourite Arnie
Usual Suspects - Favourite Spacey (who is my favourite actor).
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels - Favourite Ritchie (although I like most of them, to be honest)
Ferris Bueller's Day Off - Difficult spot to fill here - could have gone for Back to the Future just as easily

1. Let The Right One In - absolute favorite
2. Alien 3 - most beloved for me out of the Alien trilogy (for reasons the same as Jim Sterling)
3. Lost In Translation - Scarlett and Murray need I say more :)
4. Prisoners - a great suspensful thriller, fulfilled all expectations I had, with great acting from both Jackman and Gyllenhaal
5. Romeo Must Die - nostalgic favourite - first Jet Li movie I saw at a young age, for a long time he became favourite actor (and is still one of them) and I saw the film probably 30 or maybe even 50 times
+ 1, my 6th: Dead Man - a black and white, bleak and symbolistic Jim Jarmusch western full of despair with Johnny Depp as the lead, guitar soundtrack, famous actors in small roles, certainly not a film you see everyday.

Runner ups:
Alien, Aliens, Reservoir Dogs, Seven, Zodiac, Ocean Heaven

1. Princess Bride
2. Wreck-It Ralph
3. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
4. Captain America 2
5. The Incredibles

Haven't really watched many movies in recent years that aren't Marvel or Disney, at least in theaters, so those are pretty much the only recent films on my list.
