Microsoft's Xbox 360 is definately one of the best consoles ever made, but Microsoft have unfortunately cut costs on the entire damn thing. Some of these tips may seem obvious, but when my friend's 360 (that he bought a few months after i got mine) scratched his friend's Mass Effect disk, well I feel obliged to share some useful info.
1. I strongly recommend that while you can have your 360 standing vertically, that it's not something I'd advise, since its resting on some vents.
2. DO NOT move your console around while you have a disk running, or risk scratching your disks (having it standing vertically doesn't help the disk scratching problems either). And take the disc out of the console if you're going to move it.
3. Install the games you play often to your hard drive. I've heard this stops the fans from running, and will preserve their liftime.
4. If you're going to buy a cooler for your 360, then do so at your own risk as the connectors from the ones sold at JB HiFi melt into the console damaging the microprocessors. And make sure the cooler has its own power supply, because it may overheat your power brick.

Please feel free to post your own tips, or to ask questions.
As a last note I shall please ask that under no circumstances that anyone starts flame wars.
