So I wanted to make a thread and lo and behold, it was done by someone else in a different way... Fortunately I hadn`t written up the OP. I guess I could type it up in a few months but I might forget.

So, have any of your thread ideas been preempted by other Escapists?

I tried making a thread about words that don't mean what you think they mean, and was promptly locked up because the very same thread had been posted earlier that day or something along those lines. Great minds, huh?

I ALWAYS do a thorough check before posting a thread, as well as do a little soul searching to make sure someone might actually give a crap about the thread I want to make.

And you do know this isn't a game, right? It's a discussion board. If someone beats you to a topic, you don't wait until everyone forgets about it: you discuss it in their topic.

What you want to do is just sad...

Happens, then again with the amount of new threads on this site I wonder if there actually is something that hasn't been done or just loosely touched upon. There are of course the ever repeat threads but I think we have some good variation on the site. Last month there weren't as many interesting threads for me as there usually is but I guess it's just a phase.
To answer the question, I think I've only made a handful of threads during my time here so I wouldn't know

you do know this isn't a game, right? It's a discussion board. If someone beats you to a topic, you don't wait until everyone forgets about it: you discuss it in their topic.

It isn't like that at all. I want to make a post about waffles alright? I had a funny, elaborate OP set up in my head and it was going to end with a discussion question about breakfast in general.

But there was a "Waffles vs Pancakes" thread that appeared on the first page when I finally went to Off Topic to actually make the thread. It is locked now but it kind of put me out of the mood because someone beat me to the waffle subject today. So I'm going to do it later when I feel like it, if I feel like it.

If recycling topics after they disappear after page 20 is unacceptable to you I imagine you take issue with a lot of other posters here. People recycle topics a lot more frequently than I do...

Yup, happens "all the time". I only rarely post new topics, but I tend to come up with new ones while driving to work. Quite often due to a bit of news, or a song I hear on the radio.

Almost all of them will have been posted (or something similar enough for me not to bother) in the 10 hours preceding my idea.

Pretty much. I check the search section of this site and type in keyword for my thread ideas and half of the time, someone had made it in the past (e.g. I was going to make threads like do you belive in fate/ destiny or what is your spirit animal?).

Happens all the time to me.

I mean, I have this great idea of a thread that's been stuck in my head for like... 3 months now but I don't want to post it because it's so great.

Well that and knowing my luck, someone would beat me to it and post away before I could. T^T
