Torchlight won't launch

I have recently encountered a sort of odd problem. I have Torchlight on steam, and when I try to play, it will bring up a prompt asking if I want to use the local files since they are newer. Regardless of whether I choose accept or cancel, steam will show "running" next to torchlight for a few moments, then it will change to "synching" and then nothing. the game never launches.

What is interesting though, is I tried it on another computer, and it launches just fine. nothing is different, same characters, mods installed, files everything. My computer recently automatically "upgraded" to windows 10. I wonder if it could have something to do with it?

Have you tried starting it in Offline mode? That should bypass syncing and at least remove that from the equation, I believe.

If nothing else, reinstall Torchlight or try a soft-reinstall of Steam.

I would try deleting the local save games, since I think that is what Torchlight is referring to as being "newer". Then it should sync your cloud saves and load. If that doesn't work, try verifying local install files through the Steam menu, or as a last resort delete the local install and re-download.

It's definitely this, a quick search shows that it's a common complaint. No idea if there's a fix, but at least you'll know what specifically to look for.
