I suggest not to look for torrent suggestions on a forum.
Yes, depending upon what sort of torrents we're talking about here, this could be taken as seeking advice for and/or confessing to illegal activity. Which can lead to a suspension or the banhammer :) Plus it's very dumb in general, as the authorities can find you much easier than you might think. You may as well be slipping a handwritten confession into the mailbox of your local police station.

Oh, and one more edit: You're actually talking about torrenting at work? Yikes. With how hard jobs are to come by these days, that is not smart at all. Plus if it's illegal stuff you're downloading AT work...sheesh that kind of screws you for life.

Will you be torrenting AT work? That can get you into mucho troublo.

If you want to keep it legal then I'd suggest supporting Project Gutenberg.

Most ISPs will monitor torrent ports. I've been cut off and contacted by my ISPs Legal Dept for torrenting PhotoShop (legally purchased a key, but Adobes website is shit and I was unable to download the media). So, what I'm saying is that even if you're sharing legally, you can still get burned by The Man.

*Edit*

Be warned on this forum...People are high and mighty when it comes to torrenting and file sharing. If and When this thread denigrates into the same old debate I'd honestly suggest 4chans /g/ page. They're more open minded

Should I start a new thread to ask why people in these forums are so paranoid about a data transfer tool? FTP has been used for pirating longer than torrents have yet I still need to use that for work. I thought I made it pretty clear I have no intent of torrenting anything illegal. And what business is it of any of you were I torrent? My boss is actually pretty cool with personal stuff on work computers and I plan on scheduling the program so it only runs after hours.

So on topic:

Project Gutenburg: Love that site, I didn't know they used torrents so I'll see what I can find in that department. Thanks!

They don't necessarily use torrents, but I'm a major proponent of sharing Free Use data and software.

Linux ISOs for one. We could always use more seeders of The Ultimate Boot CD.

Also, (along the lines of Project Gutenburg) Look into seeding Public Domain data. A prime example would be The Sherlock Holmes books.

Thanks for the UBCD, hadn't even heard of that one but it's convenient!

Public domain in general is kinda "ehhh" as there is a lot of crap in there. Sherlock Homes support: I'm down with that.

Any other favorites?

The UBCD is AMAZING to the power of Pie. I'm not sure it has Ophcrack built into it, but I frequently have to use that program because clients forget their passwords.

This may take some flame from other users out there, but I have no problem with seeding software like Adobe, Microsoft ect.... Keygens, Movies and Music are illegal and can get you into trouble. It happened to me.

I've lost physical media before, and clients are notoriously clueless in that regard. It's easy with the Magical Jellybean Key Finder to reacquire the keys that you legally purchased.

If it weren't for a strong torrenting presence I would have been forced to buy the software over again. Tech Support (especially when it comes to physical media) is more frequently a bane than a boon. I've had a few techies ask me what FTP was...

Why was this guy banned? Torrents aren't illegal. Idiotic mods.
This. I express my disagreement with the banning of SaturdayS. I see no reason why he got suspended except if it was for the reason that he said that he'd be using his work computer for downloading and seeding the torrents.

He said he'd abuse it. That doesn't necessarily mean it was illegal or against work practices. Playing Crysis on my computer is abusing it as well. Its a lovely, general word.
If computers had feelings your computer would hate you for running Crysis on it.
But even if it was against work practices, what does the Escapist have to do with that? It shouldn't care what its users do outside of the forum. Of course, there are some exceptions like if a member is a murderer, banning would be very much appropriate.
