A Hermit's Cave
This has been kicking about my head for a while, but I'm wondering who else out there does likewise.

Regardless of which game in the title, once it becomes possible to, I standardise all my armies (or corps depending).

e.g. Rome - (RTR mod) as Rome: one consular army consists of the following:

Commander (family member)
2 x Hastati
2 x Principes
1 x Triarii
2 x Velites
2 x Funditores
1 x Equites
3 x Italian Infantry
3 x Italian Spearmen
2 x Samnite Infantry (if I can get them)
1 x Italian Cavalry

Napoleon - as Prussia: one corps consists of the following:

Generalstabs
1 x Dragoons
1 x Lancers
1 x Hussars
5 x Musketeers
4 x Fusilliers
1 x Jaegers
6 x 12lbers

So, how do you like your armies?

I like my armies with huge blocks of heavy infantry. That's my forte, just grab hold of the enemy and just crush them with a bear-hug death-grip!

In Rome I prefer the Brutii or the Greek city states:

Brutii:

1 x General
2 x Roman Cavalry
3 x Praetorian Cohorts
7 x Legionnaire Cohorts
4 x Archer Auxilia
3 x Onager if a siege.

Greeks:

1 x General
3 x Greek cavalry
3 x Spartan Hoplites
10 x Armored Hoplites
4 x Greek Archers

For the others I've started playing: Medieval II and Empire. I havent figured out what I like yet. Also I r disappoint no console commands in Empire :-/

Oooo... once I roll them out:

Commander (family member)
3 x Greek Cavalry (is it me, or are the Auxiliary Cavalry really unwieldy?)
4 x Spartan Hoplites
4 x Armoured Hoplites
4 x Hoplites (better stamina than their Armoured brethren)
4 x Cretan Archers (I really take care of these guys, normal archers if not enough Cretans... which is all the time)

Regarding Empire, I played that through a couple times and found myself with the following:

Commander
1 x Line Cavalry
1 x Hussars
4 x Line Infantry
4 x Light Infantry
4 x 6lber Horse Artillery
2 x Grenadiers
1 x Dragoons
1 x Light Dragoons

Though the LI were a mid-late game unit, so it was usually Line Infantry heavy. I had mixed feelings about ETW, though I'll voice them elsewhere...

Millions and millions of horse archers :)

If it's good enough for Genghis Khan, it's good enough for me.

But really, I tend to run realism mods and base my army composition on historical army composition. So a phalanx with skirmishers, a few specialists, and robust cavalry wings, lots of versatile light infantry supported by heavy infantry, etc. depending on culture.

Velites/Auxilia had to be the most annoying units to use in a battle in R:TW, I would disband them straight away whenever I bribed the other factions' armies.

Also I never really got around to using Triarii, I was always slow at developing my military buildings, I always focused on economic ones first because I hated having a negative income.

I found, on Rome, that when the family grows large, 20 family members (commander units) are pretty effective.

Normally though, lots of heavy infantry, some horse archers & Triarii

Since I'm mostly playing Shogun 2 multiplayer campaigns now, its bad form to standardize an army. better to take what comes at me.
