This is where I'm at. My Xbox died so I went and got me some cheap PC games. I got home with STALKER:SoC, Fallout: Collection and The Orange Box. I've alredy played TOB on the 360, but since I heard TF2 was far greater on PC I thought what the hell and bought it.

My questions are what should I play first and what patches and mods do I need?

Fallout 2 is a good choice... You can really get into that game. Trust me.

Save often, though. It's hard as shit.

Regardless, you might as well start with any of the Fallouts. They're a great way to kick off a great selection of titles.

Mods? I hear Oblivion Lost for SoC is quite good.

I'd say so, yes. It's arguably easier, and a good introduction to what I like to call The Classic Fallouts.

As for the mod question, I have absolutely no idea - my copy is unmodded.

Not of you gear your dude correctly...
But I still say save often...
Sometimes you can take advantage of the save feature by being able to pickpocket a store owner multiple times...
Regardless, it's challanging if you get lucky with the character creation... My friend kept giving me tips that he called "pro" and we both made characters...
Mine breezed through the first two areas, gaining five weapons and crap tons of ammo, as his guy wasn't strong enough to fire an assault rifle, which he put all his points into...

While they are quite hard, I found them incredibly fun. I highly recommend the Fallouts as a great starting point. I'd play the first one first, just so you understand all of the small details and jokes some characters make.

Stalker Complete 2009 is a complete overhaul/fix of the game and it makes it look amazing to boot.

(Example: http://screenshot.xfire.com/s/95892863-4.jpg Thats about 75% of max settings )
