Toughest enemy DA2

So I just finished DA2 as a mage. I found most of the game quite manageable, unlike DA1. That is, until I came across a freaking spider. My entire party would go down in a few hits and these things took more abuse than the Templar Lieutenants.
Ogres? No problem. Dragons? Piece of cake. Spiders? I'M GOIN' TO MEET JESUS! So what did you guys think? What was your toughest foe? Which enemy, whether boss or common thug, made you cringe when it entered the battlefield and why?

I had most problems with the dragons and random spawning thugs. The spider s were not that big of a problem to me.

I played as a female rogue and found it really easy on normal difficulty. The only trouble i ever had was fighting the High Dragon in Act 3 but even then i got it after a few trys....just about.

The High Dragon by far was hardest for me. Also, 2 + stealthy rogue back-stabber fights are just a pain in the ass.

Played as a mage. The only battle that actually took longer than usual was the arishok one since I was alone (Fenris opened his big mouth, the bastard) and my damn recharging times or whatever were so high, I could only use a spell about 2 times per fight. So I just ran around a lot re-enacting Benny Hill.

...But they were all pretty easy otherwise. Just took long since both enemies and you do more scratch damage than anything else.

Some battle were easier for me as a mage than when I was a rogue. The Rock Wraith was pretty hard am I right?

My party had the somewhat annoying habit of standing still and being flamed to death by the high dragon, so I ended up having to do that fight on my own, which was a bit of a *****

Rock Wraith and the high dragon High Dragon are what got me a few times.

First playthrough, I didn't have enough friendship or rivalry points with Isabela and stupidly decided to bring Merrill along during the Qunari invasion instead of Anders. So fighting the Arishok and all his men was pretty fucking difficult.

The rest of the game was easy because I put some points into healing instead of focusing on Primal and Force like a jackass.

The solo fight with the Arishok...as an Archer Rogue was really, really hard. The only thing that got me through it was Mbari and a lot of potions....oh, and a lot of running.
