So, even though this relates to the Touhou series of games, it is not directly about it, hence this being in off topic. Also, if you don't care about the sheer amount of info about Touhou that I wrote, jump down to the line, and then read on.

Now that that's out of the way, let me explain a bit. As anyone who has ever played any of the Touhou Project vertical scrolling shooters will tell you, these game are incredibly hard, and incredibly good... and incredibly hard. Did I say that already? Yeah I did. It still fits. Anyway, because of this difficulty level, fans of the games tend to be somewhat obsessive, as they have to put large amounts of time into the game to beat any of the stages. This has led to a cult following of the series that is probably the best fan following ever. These people raised anough money to hir professional animators, artists, and voice actresses for a fan-anime.

It is called Touhou Project, and not just Touhou, because of the way it's in so many forms of media (books, manga, artwork, games, music, fan-anime, etc). There sheer number of fan-videos done by professional musicians is astounding, as is the number of songs that have been reworked and remixed. Note that everything is intially done by ZUN, a single person behind around 90% of all official Touhou related things.

Also, Touhou is the proginator of an ungodly number of Japanese memes. _______________________________________________________________________________________________

Now that the backstory is out of the way (not enough people outside Japan know about Touhou as anything but one of "those crazy Japan only bullet-hell games."), we can get to the topic itself. The actual focus of this thread is one of those fan videos. The song being remade and sung (by Nomico) is "Bad-apple."

Here are two links. The first is the song plus video. The second is the song plus video plus well done english subtitles excluding that one typo some way into the vid.

Here is another example of a Touhou vid, but this time more comedic and not as well animated (and yet still just as good).

If you don't get the joke about Sakuya (the maid), ask, and I'll explain why this joke even exists.

Really, though, the first two links are what matters.

P.S: I actually don't know if these vids are fan projects, or if they are officially endorsed by ZUN, but Sankaku Complex and other places have led me to believe that these are indeed fan vids. If someone else actually knows, please, quote me, explain my mistake, and I'll edit what I wrote to be more accurate.

Touhou kicks ass! (Even if it's loli-bait)

Really great games, for the gameplay which is possible for ordinary humans on low difiiculty and godly soundtrack.

I'll add the recommendation to check remixes of the soundtracks on youtube.

Edit: the song on the third link is the 6th game final boss theme, it's on a joke that the last to final boss has different bust size between games.
I know (about the different bust size thing for Sakuya.)

What I really want to know, though, is if you liked the Bad Apple vid. I've seen that one so many times over the past few days, my eyes might start to bleed soon.

Edit: Also, though this has no vid to it (just a still frame picture), here's the Saitama Saisyuu Heiki (SSH) remix to Phantom Ensemble.

Maybe off-topic, but I want to get this out here. I really respect ZUN, he started out independent with no intention of becoming commercial and now that it is very possible for him to make Touhou an all out commercial product he instead tries his best to keep the series as independent as possible while the fans do the other things.

And also he split Doujin into 2 sub-genres: Touhou and Not Touhou.
