Greetings fellow escapists, I humbly invite each of you here to remember a friend which I have known for four - five years. Back when everyone had left me behind to rot my PS3 was there for me, along with such great games like COD: Black Ops, Skyrim, Dark Souls, Oblivion, and Mass Effect 3. It was never the thinnest of play stations (actually, it was kind of fat) but never the less, it was a talented little system that could play most PS2 games and even a few games which were for the PS1. I understand that I could have resurrected it from the darkest depths of the dreaded yellow light, but I figured to do so would be nothing short of necromancy - a vile repulsive act. May thy greedy douche bags of the video game industry sing thee to thy rest.

*Cough*

In other news I'm trying to decide whether or not I should continue saving up for a new computer or just repurchase a PS3 ASAP. Oh, and anything which I downloaded for the PS3, would that be completely lost forever? *say like games I bought on the PSN store*

I think the games would be set with your PSN account, not the PS3 itself.
Ultimately, you have to decide if getting a PC is really worth losing all the exclusives. I know for me it wouldn't be, but a decent PC can run pretty much every game with better graphics+FPS, as well as mods.
Hope your decision ends up well.

Well, ya gotta look at it this way: PC has games like Total War and DOTA/MOBA titles. Its really a matter of preference... Do you want to play GoW for 10 hours or DOTA 2 for 100?
On the flip side, consoles tend to get a hell of a lot more Japanese games than PC does.
It really is a matter of genre preference I suppose. Personally not really a fan of strategy/MOBA games, so I'll take Bayonetta over DOTA any day.

It does boil down to genre preference, but I'd say join the Master Race. Because we have some of everything.

The games are linked to your account, not your console.
Just to prevent things like this.

OP, how expensive of a computer are you looking at? Because $600 will get you something that will run pretty much everything on high for the forseeable future. If you're saving up for some $2000 megabeast, or even if you're not, it may be worth doing both; cut into your computer savings for $100 or so, get a used PS3, and still get the computer. Heck, even if you're planning on $600, the PS3 doesn't cost all that much anymore. Also, I don't know much about the yellow light, so excuse me if I'm way off base in suggesting this, but what about getting it repaired? If it's out of warranty, there may be a local shop somewhere that does console repairs. I know there's one in my area. It can't hurt to get a quote; you may find it to be a lot cheaper than a whole new system.

Yeah, but who gives a fuck about Japanese games?
*Raises hand*

OT: Depends on what exclusives you want. PC has alot of games and is tailored for mainly playing stratergy and RPG games. While PS3/Xbox 360 usually caters for the shooter crowd.

Er, no. The shooter crowd is catered to by both sides of the fence, with the PC generally being the better platform. It's more that PC is good for strategy, shooters, MMOs and anything that relies on mods, while consoles get more traditional arcade games (think Devil May Cry, God of War, light gun games...), driving games, fighting games, and so on. The PC also has examples of all of the genres I just listed, but they're fewer and farther between, just like MMOs and RTS games are on consoles.

In all, the Case, PSU, RAM, DVD Burner, Hard Drive, CPU Cooler, and Xbox Controller cost about 300 bucks ( i got them on sale.

Spend at least 500 bucks on the GPU, Motherboard, and Graphics Card to ensure longetivity, and if you have any money left, buy a PS3.

Oops.... my mistake. I hardly play shooters on PC so I had no idea how they handled.

Since he's got a PS3, he can skip the 360 controller and just get the unofficial PC drivers for the PS3 controller. Also, that sounds a bit high if those are U.S. dollars; the baseline for a decent gaming computer is $600, $700 tops. You're showing $800. Neither price includes a monitor or a keyboard or anything, but mice and keyboards are cheap, and presumably he has an HDTV he can use as a monitor if nothing else.

I even said a lot of people but no the OP. I mean, come on. I know you desperately want to quote people and all but really?

Now excuse me. You interrupted my deep meditation. I will now elevate myself to a higher state of conscience while playing DOTA 2 again. If I do anything else the anticipation for tomorrows GOT episode is too much to handle.
How's your meditation going now that I interrupted you again? I will continue to annoy you if I must because I have nothing else to do at 4:30 in the morning except watch Anastasia.

I've got my eye of you, Smash

OT: Yeah, I'd be best to get a PC. I recently just got started in the master race and I already love it. Even though I'm mainly a console gamer, I'm having a blast with what games I can play.
