Okay, I got stoked when I saw classic Sonic jump in. I can still remember the days and nights of playing that god-awful pyramid level in Sonic 3.

No no no no no, if you're going to have the classic sonic, you have to have the classic spinning legs run.

Never played a Sonic game.
Never got bit by that bug.
Not sure if I will care about this, even though it sounds like a decent retroactive jumping on point.

Also, Sonic Advance 2 was responsible for THIS.
Sweet Jesus... Well it's not like Sonic Rush produced more lame characters for furies to make hideous erotica. Right? RIGHT?

Honestly, I am kinda glad, I did enjoy Sonic 4. Although it did seem like various stages and bosses from 1-3 with a few extra things added. Be interesting to see how this pans out.

Sonic is dead I'm afraid.

He died in a tragic car accident just after the release of Sonic and Knuckles.
Now...be honest here.

Did you play any of the post-S&K "Sonic Advance" games? Or the first Sonic Rush? Or Sonic Colors DS?
Yeah. I often wonder why everyone seems to forget about those titles, like maybe I live in some kind of parallel universe where those games were made, but everyone else lives in a different universe where they weren't. o_O

i have an honest question to sonic fans, please dont get offended im just curious, does anyone here that is a real sonic fan, sick of the same formula over and over again produced by sega? because the only interesting sonic game in the last decade iv noticed was sonic and the dark brotherhood. other than that its run collect rings, turn super saiyan(or super sonic)and beat the main boss.

ps im not having a go im just curious if fans are getting over the same formula?.

The trailer fails to make me feel optimistic for the simple fact that the environments should not be rollercoasters. Rendered in 3D, the older stages should be sprawling hillsides and the multiple routes would be possible by climbing either the left cliff face, going down the hill on the right, or going through the loop in the middle etc. Bioware got it right, even if that was a different genre.
Rollercoaster design is what got Sonic going through the endless speed pads and "hold forward to win" that probably resulted in Sega's belief that more variety was needed than just "Sonic gameplay".

I've been trying to tell Sega to do this for years now as I've watched the games steadily decline. Still haven't played Sonic 4, but they've been drifting from the original Genesis games for a while.

I doubt it was my letters that made this happen, though.

...I did suggest Sonic Generations or Origins as a name if they re-made the Genesis games, though.

...Ahaha, I'm looking forward to this. Hoping it's good.

Honestly, no. I enjoyed the Dark Brotherhood, but it's an RPG, so I look at it as an RPG.

Also, I say No not because I can name several other series and franchises that have done the same, but because I do play all Sonic games with an open mind. If it sucks, then I can makes a reasoned statement of why it does, not because it's not like the old games, or uses an age old formula.

DON'T GET OPTIMISTIC DON'T GET OPTIMISTIC DON'T GET OPTIMISTIC
FUCK I GOT OPTIMISTIC.
In reality, I can afford to be optimistic. Judging by SOH 4 and Colours, Sonic team is going out of its way to please fans. And also judging by the last two games and this, its going more like "I'M SORRY I'M SORRY I'M SORRY I'M SORRY PLEASE TAKE ME BACK". So yeah, I will be optimistic. Besides, they have NO EXCUSE for any gimmick apart from two designs of Sonics, and maybe a gameplay thing where the 2d platforming is classic, and the new 3d platforming is the regular Sonic. That'd be cool.

That was pretty cool. Just Sonic doing what he's best at. Maybe Sega'll finally make a game that's all about Sonic and running... Please don't mess up again...

Looks like some Sonic Team animator remembered that you have to move your arms while running.

Hey, anyone else bothered by how weird and emotionless Classic Sonic looks when he looks at Modern Sonic? I can't fault them for making a faithful recreation of Classic Sonic in 3D as they did (actually kinda reminds me of Sonic 3D Blast), but for that one moment there seems to be little or no expressiveness in his face.

Anyway, I think my favorite part of all of this was the stage. I loved it.

Pretty much this.

I always roll my eyes a little when the fans whine, "But how come Sega doesn't listen to the fans and return to Sonic's roots?" Gee, I can't possibly imagine why they wouldn't want to listen to the fans, after they gave us exactly what we'd been whining for, and nobody played them.

Of course, I have a hunch that if Sega made a game with the SatAM cast (with Princess Sally as the damsel-in-distress instead of Amy Rose, and so on), these same "fans" would be lining up to kiss their asses, no matter how shitty and broken the gameplay was. Heck, if they went back and did a re-skin of Sonic 2006, keeping every aspect of gameplay and control (the glitches, the tedious minigames, the idiotic level design), but re-skinned the characters and environment to turn it into the SatAM cast and setting and rewrote the cutscenes to fit the SatAM plot, the fans would be all over it, praising it to the skies and violently attacking anyone who pointed out these flaws.

Nice video showing the history.

Though, it still saddens me that some fans cannot be pleased by Sega's latest offerings. I mean seriously, it seems that some willingly refused to be pleased. Yes, I know some fans have legitimate complaints and whatnot but, it seems to be overshadowed by idiots and whiners. For me, The Sonic Cycle broke with the entries of Unleashed, Colors, and now (hopefully) Generations. What Sega really needs is less whiny and demanding fans and to keep up this development style (AKA at least three years). Personally, I love both Retro and Modern. They have their own positives and negatives. It's just that some people need to be more open-minded. But of course, I understand that people will disagree with me (especially in this community). Our mileages will vary. I'll most likely buy Sonic Generations when it comes out.

Oh yeah almost forgot this. and...
