Have you tried Il-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey? It's a console flight sim, and is as realistic as practical for a console game. The same company is currently working on a game called Birds of Steel (technically not part of the Il-2 franchise), and it looks to be the same thing, but for pacific fighters.DannibalG36 said:Ace Combat 5 was pitch-perfect on the sim-arcade-shooter mix. But this? This is dogfighting for pussies. Whatever happened to games like IL-2 Sturmovik and Combat Flight Simulator 2?
Nobody really has the attention span for real combat flight sims these days. I really miss them as a genre - Jane's F-15 and Falcon 4.0 were incredible, too. Or going super old school, MicroProse's F-19 Stealth Fighter. There haven't been any good modern ones lately, although I'm looking forward to getting a computer that can run DCS A-10C Warthog.DannibalG36 said:Ace Combat 5 was pitch-perfect on the sim-arcade-shooter mix. You can fly all the planes, just like any other ace combat games. And the enemies will used varied planes as always, this is just the tutorial.Raiyan 1.0 said:Oh man, they're bringing in aircraft racism!
Lockheed Martin=Good
Sukhoi=Bad
I miss the days of AC3 where I would fly a Russian Su-47 and my wingman would be an American F-15 S/MTD and we would take out French Dassaults...![]()
I doubt that... earlier AC titles had fictional nations, so they could use any aircraft they wished. They can't do that here since they're bringing in real-world nations. I have yet to to see the Russian mercenaries fly anything other than Sukhois (and 2 Tupolevs), and I doubt you'll be shooting off any American aircraft in the SP since you're yourself, you know, American.Nexus4 said:You can fly all the planes, just like any other ace combat games. You can fly any craft, the player's in this video are shown using a mixture of Russian and European aircraft: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_QBkRT9Iic Experimental craft have not been shown, however there are rumors of experimental Generation 5 combat aircraft to be included in the game. No point spoiling the surprise in your first trailers. Just because it is set in the real world does not mean they will take liberties to the rational story. We already know that super-weapons are in, with the Rebels using unidentified munitions to eliminate scores of U.N. aircraft. So experimental aircraft are not entirely unreasonable. This is set 5 minutes into the future after all.Raiyan 1.0 said:I doubt that... earlier AC titles had fictional nations, so they could use any aircraft they wished. This isn't going to be the usual AC fanfare - I've yet to see a fictional experimental fighter, and I doubt there'll be one since it's set in the real world.
Mind you, I'm not judging the game. It'll probably be fine, and if the change in setting helps it sell more (AC sales had been dropping, that's why there were no AC titles for the PS3 for such a long time), I'm not against it.
Are you expecting Ace Combat to play like IL-2 Sturmovik and CFS2? You mad brah? Also they went and released Birds of Prey and Cliffs of Dover, I would suggest checking them out if you want a hardcore sim; not Ace Combat.DannibalG36 said:Ace Combat 5 was pitch-perfect on the sim-arcade-shooter mix. Huh, I missed that gameplay vid. Thanks for dropping that link.Nexus4 said:You can fly any craft, the player's in this video are shown using a mixture of Russian and European aircraft: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_QBkRT9Iic
You know how I was agreeing with everyone about how this game is just Call of Duty with Aircrafts? I've changed my mind. It's not CoD, exactly.Raiyan 1.0 said:

Me too.RanceJustice said:Unfortunately, it appears that Assault Horizon won't be taking place in Gracemeria and the other fictional republics... too bad. I miss that sort of flexibility.
